Remember when you were younger and your mom bought all your clothes? It was always the more practical thing to buy larger sizes so we could grow into them. However, there were always times when the size ran a little too big and you wondered why in the world she would buy you something so big. So we tried it on anyways and it fell down to our knees, the sleeves hanging well past our hands. Drowning in the sweater and it’s knitted glory, your mom says….”Oooo, you’ll grow into it!” At an older age, wearing an oversized sweater is fantastic and cozy, but when you were little it hindered your ability to move and run about. It was uncomfortable.

Well…the "sweater" I was given recently is HUGE. I find myself spending most days just searching for the hole to peak my head out.

Last month we had our first team changes. I was moved from my team and made a team leader for an entirely new team. When I was asked I already knew what I was supposed to do (become a team leader)…but that doesn’t mean I wanted to take off my nicely fitting sweater to put on on that was too big. I liked how that one fit!

So I stepped into the role of a team leader and put on my big girl sweater. After saying a tearful goodbye to my first team Salt and Light (see photo below), we had our “make a memory day” with my new team.

TEAM SALT AND LIGHT (first team)

It started off great, we made a plan to rent mopeds and visit a beach on the other side of Phuket, Thailand. We had such an amazing afternoon! Coral Island was gorgeous and we left there laughing and excited for new beginnings. On the way home, I thought it would be a great idea to try and drive the moped (with no previous experience) Well needless to say some of us got in a couple accidents. Don’t worry no one was seriously harmed!

After a series of events including our taxi driver stopping to get KFC for 15 minutes while we sat wounded in his backseat, me passing out from trying to clean out my wounds because I hadn’t eaten since lunch, and me crying…I realized my first day as a team leader was not exactly what I had in mind. I don’t know…I guess I kind of expected to NOT completely fail! But, after everyone got home I heard of many other squad friends who also got in accidents….
If you are a future or current racer….just re-think the whole moped idea…it sounds fun, but really isn’t worth it 😉

All in all we had quite the interesting and very eventful first day as a team. I had to realize the hard way that leading was not about failing or succeeding, but rather about loving my team the best I can. Thus the creation of our new team and new name….team <3 greater love! Here we go on to another great adventure!!!
