Things in El Salvador are going great, our team is definitely becoming a family, our contacts are truly amazing, and we are making an influence in many lives.
Days are busy and never the same, even the services are different from each other. So if you were wondering we have attended a church service every single night since we have been here. Yep that’s right every single night, and they aren’t anything like services in America these people have so much heart. They make means of the supplies that they do have, one church only had a cassette player but you better believe they played it as loud as they could with the music that still exists. Also they aren’t your typical hour and half most of us are used to, its more than three songs and a thirty minute sermon. It’s more like six songs to begin, the Americans talk, give a testimony, sing one or two songs, talk some, talk about being a missionary, mention their country is beautiful and so are the people, how were honored this is our first month, and a
possible drama or give the sermon. Oh and did I mention this is all a last minute surprise we either find out during service were doing this or as we get there. Yep gotta love how they go with the flow here, it’s definitely teaching us to be prepared for anything this year, and it might be good to have a couple songs, drama, and sermons in mind because you may be giving them. Surprise!!Then we listen to a sermon, sing three more songs, pray for twenty minutes then get prayed over, then finally try to leave after service but everyone wants to kiss you, hug you, shake your hand, talk with you or feed you.
Also things are not on our timing it is all on Gods. We try to plan out what we’re going to do for the week or day and things change which should be a given on the World Race. Yesterday was a funny day we woke up
to go to basically the K-Love station of El Salvador a Christian station everyone here listens to. We went to pick up our translator and were supposed to be at the station at 9:30, yep 9:30 rolls around and were still sitting in the back of our S10 style pickup truck, we were slightly worried because now we were about to be late. How embarrassing.
Come to find out the radio station had too much lined up for yesterday and cancelled on us, they tried calling the day before but our contacts phone was in a different truck we didn’t have. So of course we just figured we would head home work on a drama and song. Nope you better believe another surprise is thrown our way, a school wants us to come by
and visit with the kids. Uhh ok we will go where were needed but what will we do, we didn’t plan on this it’s such a surprise I’m not dressed to play with kids either. We get to the school and go into 4 and 5 year old rooms, we sing Jesus loves us to them, tell them our names, what we are doing, they sing to us and tell us they love us, and then they ask us questions and smile and giggle a lot with them and talk with each other about how cute they are. We are supposed to be going back there for a day before we leave yay.
We prepare for our church service later that night, what we were doing, who was a part of the drama, what songs we would sing, who was bringing the music, who would explain the drama, who would read the Bible verses in Spanish who would pray and who would give their testimony. Well I was supposed to explain the drama, Erika was supposed to give her testimony and everyone had a part. Well we get to the church and find out we can’t do the drama or sing and Erika can’t talk. Apparently here guys have very powerful authority
over a girl and only a girl in a skirt can go on stage, we were cool with that a night we didn’t actually have to do anything during service, sweet. And the girls weren’t offended at all, then they tell me I’m sharing my testimony because I’m the only girl in a skirt K cool I’m down with that. Service beings and they tell us we are no longer doing it, there isn’t time, probably because service was three hours long.
So today we were heading to the village where we would be attending church and Dustin would be preaching we made a little , pit stop and walk into an unfamiliar place. No big deal this is normal already, come to find out it was the radio station surprise! We were interviewed on the station, video to come as soon as I get enough internet. So obviously God didn’t want us to prepare for what we would say and he had people who needed to hear us today, not yesterday. Come to find out that’s exactly the case, we already had people call us who want us to come to their church on the 30th what we said truly touched their hearts and they want us to talk with their youth and run service. Saaweet J
After we went to the village an hour away, meet the people of the church then go have lunch, we only had an hour to relax before we needed to be back at the church, so what do we do, go on a hike through the bush/jungle to eat lunch along Ghost Lake. Get back to service a half hour before it starts, yeah we were slightly late we were supposed to be there two hours before it began. Dustin prepared for his speech, and two minutes before service began I find out I’m giving my testimony and like a good friend I volunteer Jessica to give hers to. But it went very well and we know all timing was Gods timing and there were people who needed to her my testimony tonight, not last night.
Tomorrows a free day, yay were going to look at ruins and old temple sweet! J
