Compassion a passion for children
- Children under age 18 make up nearly 48 percent of the population of the world’s least developed countries, compared with 21 percent of the population of the world’s industrialized nations.
For one Saturday afternoon last month we were able to go to compassion international to love on some children and to share Christ with them. We spent time at Compassion International
where they have a passion for children. We spent time with over 200 hundred children, some with HIV/AIDS, some without parents, and some without a sponsor.
We were able to split up into small groups and go into classrooms where children are given basic education every Saturday and learn who Jesus Christ is, they are taught the Bible form beginning to end. We went in teaching them songs, they taught us songs and jumping around on us and hugging us as they sing, then they learned a Bible story. One girl in this classroom captured my heart named Mary.
We spent hours with them playing checkers, doing skits, taking photos, them doing skits for us, showing us life skills they learn to support themselves when they become older, and just loving them. Before we left I wanted to give Mary a small gift that my cousin gave me over a year ago. I gave her a silly band my cousin gave me and told me to give to an African child, I waited three months for the child who I felt God would want me to give it to because it would truly impact them.
When I gave the bracelet to Mary she didn’t know what to do with it, she was confused on how to wear it on her wrist and was unsure if it was truly for her. When I told her that I was giving it to her and it came from my cousin her face lit up; but it didn’t light up because she
received a gift but she received something even greater. I promised my cousin I would share the love of Christ with her and I told her that Jesus loves her, and she is receiving the gift because my cousin also loves Jesus and knows the love of Christ and wanted to share that with someone else.
In all of my eleven months on the race I haven’t seen a girls face light up in a way that hers did, she was full of joy from the inside out, she couldn’t stop smiling and she just received one of the greatest gifts of her life, far beyond a silly band. She received the love of our Lord and savior. Now she can grow up knowing the love of God and that she is a worthy beautiful daughter of the most High King.
