At a very appropriate time in my life I am reading a book called The War of Art, by Stephen Pressfield.  The book is about how to break through those walls that so often keep us from achieving our goals.  Whether it be procrastination, writers block, or laziness, there is always something that keeps us from reaching our goals.  This phenomenon he calls “Resistance”.  It’s a single enemy that just happens to take the form of procrastination or laziness.  At some point we just have to say no to resistance, and just do it.

My previous blog, The Bridge to Somewhere, just happened to touch on this subject.  For me, resistance is details.  I can see the end goal, I have the vision for it, but I get bored with the details along the way.  Hence, resistance usually wins.  But in this phase of my life, I am quickly becoming determined to not let resistance win anymore.  I’m sick of putting off my dreams and visions because of worthless excuses.  There will always be a reason not to go after my dreams: money, time, resources, the list could go on forever.

And then I thought about the most prominent goal I am trying to achieve: my support raising goal.  Support raising is hard and incredibly uncomfortable.  That’s the excuse that resistance offers.  I could succumb to that excuse, maybe send out a support letter that still keeps me at arms length from people just in case they say no, so that they aren’t saying no to my face, but are saying it silently by not giving.  Or I can fight that excuse and say, yeah support raising is hard and uncomfortable, but if I don’t do it, I won’t go to Haiti.  I won’t be serving God like he has asked me to, and my own personal life will not have that fulfillment and joy of dong that.  So I’m going to go to the hard places, and start asking people directly, whether that means through blogs, emails, or over the phone.

So here is my first step to overcoming resistance in support raising.  Are you able to give? Did you get a tax refund that you are not sure what to do with?  Have you been tithing monthly?  Has God laid it on your heart to give, but you have not done so for some reason or another.  Well here is an opportunity to join in a partnership and give to a ministry that is moving God’s Kingdom.  You can click on the support me link on the left hand side of the column, or if you prefer to give via snail mail, send me an email with your home address and I can get you the necessary information.  I leave for Haiti in a week in a half, and I still need about $5861.  That can easily be broken down if 10 people can give $50 a month and 10 people can give $100 a month.  I am boldly asking that you partner with me, join in this ministry and be a part of what God is doing in Haiti and around the world.
