To be redeemed is what the good book is all about! It is also what I have been walking in. So many things have been redeemed for me these past couple of months and will probably continue to be this new year!
The definition of the word redeeming is ‘serving to offset or compensate for a defect’, of course, there are many more for the root word ‘redeem’.
What It Looked Like Before
The word or idea of redemption hit my heart first at J.J.’s Restaurant when I was seventeen going on eighteen. I wanted to be a waitress so bad because I had become of age to be one and all my friends were. They hired me as a hostess to get acquainted with the menu and the establishment as many places do. Then they kept me as a hostess for almost a year since ‘I was so good at it’. They then hired my friend as a waitress straight away. I was frustrated, to say the least. After throwing a fit threatening to quit they agreed to train me to serve.
The owner himself Jerry took training me into his own hands during the day while it was slow since it was just us for the most part anyway. What he said to me one of those training days has been written on my heart ever since and restated to younger generations of serves from my own mouth. He said, ‘no matter what you do, however big you mess up, there is always room for redemption, every time you talk to a table there is a chance for that’. For instance, say I forgot someones, Dr. Pepper, all I have to say is ‘I am so sorry, let me go get that’, and the next time I return to the table with it, right then, the whole situation is redeemed. It really IS that easy. From the big disastrous situations to the smallest ones.
What It Looks Like Now
So many things have already been redeemed for me. I noticed my life felt like I was living in circles, but now I’m sure God wanted to bring me back to things to redeem them for me.
He is also redeeming things for others around me. I suppose that is what it took for me to realize what was happening in my life. Our original Team Leader Kaylin had a miserable Peru experience, but she loved the country. When we went there I, of course, had my predispositions because of her experience and losing my headphones, however, we had an absolutely beautiful time there together and God redeemed both our circumstances!
Another testimony of redemption is the fact that I have been waking up at four in the morning, EVERY morning, if you know me, you know I am NOT a morning person. Though through that I have been able to see some awesome mountain top sunrises and read books of the bible, specifically Ruth, a testimony of redemption in an of itself!
“And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you ask, for all my fellow townsmen know that you are a worthy woman (Ruth 3:11 ESV).”
“Then the redeemer said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I impair my own inheritance. Take my right of redemption yourself, for I cannot redeem it (Ruth 4:6 ESV).”
