I have been working as a Dental Hygienist for the past 4 years, which I enjoy. I get super excited when I hear about people traveling and thinking about being within different cultures all over the world. At the beginning of this year I started to feel that I needed a big change, the kind that completely flips your life upside down. I had a great idea that I should move blindly to Australia for a year starting in January 2013. I did a bunch of research and planning, but I was interested in something more than just moving to a foreign country.
I was really beginning to understand the value of community and began looking into ideas that allow me to continue to be within a community minded environment, but in my searching I was unable to find what I was looking for. After reading a book that involved a lot of information regarding issues with women worldwide, I considered the idea that I could do missions work in South East Asia as this was a short jump from Australia.
During my process of thought and planning, I ended up meeting an acquaintance of mine at a friend house one night. The conversation was just what I was looking for. I was presented with organizations and different world-wide activities that were out there which I could grow in God, and do missionary work. She told me about the world race and the little she knew about it after meeting a group on her YWAM DTS. My spirit was excited and I began researching and praying. From my research the World Race seemed to be something that would engage me in community, stretch me, lead me to grow in my relationship with God, and also give me the opportunity to show love and encourage others in need.
I found out there were routes that left in January, which fit my original plan and that the route included many countries where the work and discipleship would be involve with sex trade, and human trafficking issues, areas that were pressing on my heart.
I really believe God's hand was involved in the process for me going on the race. And I am so excited for God's plan to unfold on this journey!
