Well Trujillo, Peru has been pretty awesome and one of the biggest reasons why is because God has shown me so much and has been working on some serious healing. Yesterday was probably one of the best days for a while now. We all went to Huanchaco beach to spend some time with the youth of the church and to also watch four of my amazing squadmates get baptized.
When we first got there we did a little worship session on the beach and I just turned around and faced the ocean and worshipped. I felt so in touch and wrapped in God’s presence. My heart was literally over-flowing with joy and love. It is funny because earlier this week when I was talking to one of the squad leaders, he asked me how do you connect with God? I wasn’t sure exactly how I connected with God, I mean I love worship and reading God’s word but sometimes that just isn’t enough. Standing there on the beach listening to the waves crash and the wind wrapping around me and admiring God’s incredible creation. If you know me well, you know that I love nature and how I absolutely love the ocean. I remember during the time of worship I told God how much I loved him and I heard him respond back to me ‘I love you too.’ Man, I cannot express how that made me feel and how just fulfilled I felt. I found the way I connect with God on so a deep level…nature and music.
Later in the afternoon I saw my squadmate Amy standing by the water and I went down and stood by her and asked what she was thinking. She started to tell me how God showed her something right there. When she was standing there she was waiting for the wave to come up to her feet but sometimes it would come so close but it would not touch her feet. She said that God revealed to her that just her longing for those waves to come wrap around her feet and when it doesn’t and you just step into the wave it is not as satisfying as when it naturally comes up to your feet. The waves are like the desires we have. The waves/desires that we don’t get or have to work for, they are never as satisfying as when they just naturally happen. The waves that don’t come to us are just simple desires where the waves that wrap around our feet are like God’s desires for us. They are always so much better and so satisfying, we just have to be patient and trust him. Leaving Peru with so much love, joy, and fulfillment of God; can’t ask for anything better.
