Looking up at the sky tonight was magnificent and awe-inspiring. I could see the stars so clearly and shining so brightly. I could see Orion’s Belt and then the Big Dipper, which was upside down compared to how we see it at home. I could see Venus and then the dreamy Milky Way, just hanging up above my head. It was breathtaking and just showed how incredible and creative our God is. He came up with the idea of stars, planets, and even made designs out of them. And of all places I am standing in the jungle of Bolivia on the edge of a cliff with the river roaring beneath me and lightening bugs sparking up all around.
The following day I was laying in my hammock just listening to music and letting my mind wander and I looked up at the tree’s leaves providing shade for me and the sunlight poking through the leaves here and there. I started to admire the beauty in God’s craftsmanship and how incredible it is to be alive and walking on this universe that He created. And how I am so blessed just to be alive and a part of this creation, simple as that fact I am alive.
Both of these times all I could think about is how incredible it is that God first off created this universe and maybe even more galaxies that we may not even know of and second that I am breathing and living in this world. And how he created me and knew that I would be standing right here admiring His craftsmanship in the middle of the jungle in Bolivia. *mind blown* I thought about Psalm 139:13-16, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” He spoke all this universe into life! I really start to science geek out because I start thinking about how a tree works and then how our bodies work and just how complex and crazy it is yet he came up with it and understands how everything works completely together.
During this time one song came to mind from one of my favorite bands, Sleeping At Last – Saturn. This is probably one of my favorite songs; it says ‘How rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist.’ I see this as something that I say time after time to God and how he picked and created me to be a part of this incredible universe.
As many know before I left I got a tattoo on the inside of my right lower leg which was happened to me during the Beauty for Ashes retreat before training camp. One of the sessions was focused on our worth and how a diamond’s worth can only be determined by the jeweler. So our worth can only be determined by the one who created us, God. They then asked us to pray and asked God what our worth was and he gave me the image of a mountain range with the northern lights shining brightly above and how I am worth being a part of this creation and that I have a purpose here and that he sees me as that kind of beauty. So I challenge my readers to pray right now to God and ask him what you are worth. Because we are truly more valuable then we think we are and it truly is rare and beautiful that we exist.
