One of my llast blogs ended with Prayer Walking. Prayer walking is a new concept for me. It entails walking throughout your city, being observant to your surroundings and to what God may be showing you, praying over the city (whether that is for the people directly or the places one encounters).
Joining other believers
Setting aside a good chunk of time
Choosing an area to walk throughout
Praying with insight
Focusing on God
Sharing with the larger group what was experienced or prayed
Coordinating efforts with teammates and discerning if God is prompting a repeated focus on particular areas
Prayer walking is great to do in an area that one is not familiar with so as to not cloud, imagine, or be bias about what one observes or what God may be saying. Obviously there are benefits of praying in any area of familiarity as well. My team split into 2 groups and with a map, had 6 specific places around Uzice that we were intentionally heading towards. Our path circled the town of Uzice, with 1 person on each team being the observer, 1 person being the writer (writing down their own thoughts and observations as well as that of the observers), and 1 person praying. Each of these roles was intentional but not limiting to the other people in that he observer was also able to prayer if desired and the praying person was able to have the writer write something down.
This is a practice that is going to be widely used this month for ministry. Our ministry this month is a pioneering ministry in which our main focus is building friendships and introducing them to a personal relationship with Christ…in which our contacts will then be able to continue in friendship with them and disciple them. Since Serbia is filled with Orthodox churches and those who hear of born-again Christians feel as though it’s a cult or sect, prayer over and throughout the whole city and villages is one of the only ways in which we can minister to a wider variety of people.
