I know every time I get to a new country I talk about how amazing it is but guysssss Guatemala is the bomb!! We arrived here about a week ago – with a slight detour to Colombia because we missed our flight. That’s a whole other story I could talk about because God turned a situation that could’ve been horrible- aka a group of teenagers in a foreign country alone- into an amazing opportunity to explore a new place and meet amazing people who let us stay in their home for free. But anyways, when I got here to the base we are staying at, an overwhelming sense of peace surrounded me. I could tell this was going to be a great 3 months. And boy, was I right. Just this first week I’ve seen God do some pretty crazy things I had trouble believing were even possible. Just in this week I’ve seen multiple people get healed. During lunch time at our ministry we do house visits within the village we work at. We met a beautiful lady who kindly invited us into her house to pray for her husband who has had bronchitis and headaches for weeks. We laid hands over him and prayed that God take away all of his pain. When we were done he had a huge smile on his face and said he had no more pain. And this is just one example of the healing I’ve seen so far. Guatemala is going to be a place of radical healing. I just know it.
The village we work in takes about 45 minutes to get to with 2 different bus rides. In the morning we walk to the bus station right outside our house and ride to the center of a busy market. Also, I use the term “bus” loosely because it’s more of a huge van. In America it would fit around 9 people, but here they fit about 20. Not exaggerating at all. Most of the time I’m standing on the outside ledge of the van holding onto anything I can while the driver is slinging around corners and pulling out in front of huge buses. It’s sooo fun but also I’m saying a silent prayer in my head the whole time (just in case my hands happen to get sweaty and I fly off and die, because it’s possible). When we arrive to the market we then take another actual bus to the village. Here we teach English on Monday, art on Tuesday, a bible stud on Wednesday, and sports on Friday. We have one class in the morning and another in the afternoon. This week we made Christmas ornaments and are teaching the kids a Christmas song for a performance on Friday. I love our ministry so much. When I wake up I genuinely cannot wait to see these kids again. It’s amazing to see them learn so much.
I also just love the culture of Guatemala. Its very ancient and has such an interesting history. Antigua is one the coolest places I have ever been. The women wear beautiful indigenous clothing with many colors. The food is so frickin good. Wow I just literally love everything about this place. I’ve found my happy place. Never coming home, sorry friends and family. Just kidding but also not really.
