Today we had a home visit with a grandma of 3 kiddos. One of who goes to our care point regularly for food. But ive never really talked to her before. After praying over the two ladies, I waited for the little girl to put her shirt on. I grabbed her lunchbox and she ran and grabbed my hand. We headed on our way to the care point. I started asking her name — no answer. I asked her again — her response : “yes”. So I came to the conclusion that she doesn’t know any English. I start looking down at her randomly and she starts laughing her booty off. She squeezes my hand twice so I do the same back and the biggest smile comes across her face. I now get what’s happening now. So I make funny faces every 10 seconds and the same laugh comes up. I spin her around in circles and an abundant joy rushes to her face. So like any great moment we start running to the care point giggling and it occurred to me that in this moment we showed love in our own way. We showed love through weird little actions. And this shy little girl came out of her shell.
Love looks a lot of ways and Jesus gave me this sweet moment to remember. I know the language barrier will only get worse in Nepal and India but my first thought was that this walk back is going to be so awkward and I have no idea what to do. But the Holy Spirit did it’s thing instead. My controlling, needing to know what’s happening bubble was popped yet again. Showing love doesn’t mean a full on conversation or even knowing her name. But rather it’s about being a little uncomfortable and giving it your best shot to make the best out of every situation that God might give you.
Nomguluso and I (yes I now know her name when Bongiwe our shepherd told me) are good friends at our care point when she comes. Made a new friend and figured out a new way to love.
