Hello World!
Or my little part of the world! Welcome to my World Race blog! I am so excited to be able to share in this journey with y’all (for all my southern friends) and tell you guys a little about myself!
My name is Sonora, but everyone calls me Sonny for short. I am 19 years old. I was born in San Diego, California but moved to Virginia when I was seven years old. That’s where life really happened for me! I have now lived back in sunny San Diego for the past year.
Let me tell you a little bit about my family! I have three sisters and wonderful parents. I am closest with my sister Corinne who is two years younger than me. We have been best friends since her birth and have always done most everything together! My older sister, Jessie, is nine years older than me and is married to my brother-in-law Kevin. They have five amazing kiddos (four boys and one girl) who I absolutely adore. I love being an aunt! My youngest sister, Annalise, is 9 years younger than me, and my mom likes to say that she is a little version of me! We have a lot of similar interests. My mom is obviously pretty important in my life, as in she gave birth to me, but also in the fact that she raised me to love God and to love others. I love her so much, and am so grateful for her! Lastly, but not least, my dad. He’s where I get a lot of my quirks! We both love 80’s music, biology, creating things, and God! I love him a ton.
I became a Christian when I was around six years old. I grew up mostly in a Baptist church but was raised in a more non-denominational home. This really has shaped how I view my relationship with God. God is my closest companion, coach, and confidante. I love Him more than anything in the entire universe. I went through a time in my early teen years when I felt distant from God. This continued until I was about 16 years old until I attended my closest friend’s youth group. During this group, for the first time, I really experienced the power of the Holy Spirit. Later that night on the drive home, while marveling at the stars, I pondered how He could’ve created both the stars AND me, and, in the end, say I am more precious to Him. That night, I recommitted my life to the Lord. Since then, things wax and wane, but I love the Lord more than ever and only want to grow deeper in my relationship with Him.
And that all leads me to join the World Race! I am so excited to share the love of Christ with those I will meet! I thank God for this answer to prayer. And I thank you, whoever is reading, for joining me on my journey!
P.S. A couple random facts about me:
1) My favorite color is yellow and, if I could, I would paint the entire world yellow!
2) I love kids, especially toddlers and junior highers. I also volunteer as a leader at a junior high group at my church.
3) I really like high waisted jeans/skirts.
4) I want to start my own coffee shop/bookstore, and I am a barista at a local coffee cart.
5) I love exclamation points if you hadn’t noticed!
