A few weeks ago I was helping a friend of mine write his testimony. He was struggling with it because he was comparing his story to those of others who have been through something crazy in their life and had some big significant moment that led them to God. He has not had anything like that happen to him in his 18 years of life. To that I tried my best to make him believe that his story IS important.
John 15:27 says: “You will testify too, because you have been with me from the beginning”. For those who have known God their whole lives and not had a big moment that led them to Him, they will testify too, for it shows that they have known him since the beginning and they praise Him. For those who haven’t known God their whole lives and have not had a big moment to lead them to Him, their story is important as well for it shows that despite not having a traumatic experience which lead them to God, they were still able to meet him. No one has a story that is not important, that is not possible. Your story is important because it has made you who you are and if you have a life with Christ, that is important.
Yes, many people have been to hell and back and have found a life with God and found Him at their lowest point in there life, and were saved. It is true that many people have had a big moment where God practically moved mountains before their eyes to prove Himself to them. Also, many people have known God their entire lives, grown up in a Christian home, and continue to worship the God they love. Many people have just gotten to know God slowly throughout their lives and haven’t had any big moment that led them to Him. What matters is that God is in their lives, they are living through Him, and continue to grow in their faith.
I have been through some difficult things in my life so far, which has brought me closer to God. I have battled with depression on and off for most of my teenage life and I continue to struggle with it. I have gone through trying to self medicate with drugs, alcohol, and self harm. I was suicidal, I let Satan come into my life and almost convince me that I was so worthless that I should take my own life. All of that ended up bringing me closer to God. My story, where I have strayed from God and I have struggled with some serious things, is just as powerful as one that is the total opposite of mine.
Some people that I have met have been lucky enough to grow up in a Christian home, to not battle with depression, not battle with Satan’s powerful spell because God has built them up so much that Satan cannot even break down their walls. Those people are not weak, they are not any less than someone else who has let Satan weaken them for a period of time. Those people are powerful. Everyone is powerful, no matter what their story is.
The important thing is that our story has lead us to God, no matter how or when we got there. A relationship with God is the most important relationship we could ask for. Whether you testimony is full of trials and tribulations that God has thrown at you or it is a smooth sailing ship and you have not battled anything too crazy, the important thing is that God is in your life. What I wish everyone could believe is that they are important and their story is important, because without a story they wouldn’t be who they are today. God works in many different ways and every way that he works is powerful.
