Every weekday is pretty much the same here in Ecuador. Get up, go to ministry, get thrown up on… you know, the usual. Here’s a minute by minute of what I do in a day:
6:45am: my first alarm goes off.
6:46am: I throw an “I don’t want to get up” tantrum.
6:50am: Anna Wilk’s alarm has been going off for 5 minutes.
6:55am: still going off.
7:00am(ish): I get out of bed and start getting ready for the day.
7:15am: I go downstairs to do my quiet time, I’m currently reading Acts.
8:00am: breakfast is supposed to start.
8:07am breakfast actually starts.
8:25am I’m running around the house getting my stuff together and grabbing lunches for my team.
8:30am: team Refinement heads to ministry, it’s about a 30 minute walk. It’s usually in silence because we don’t do mornings.
9:00am: we make it to Camp Hope and put our stuff in the lockers. We then head to our normal classrooms, mine is called Gozo (which means joy in Spanish).
9:10am give my kids hand and feet massages.
10:00am snack time! Most of my kids can’t eat on their own and have to have blended food so snack time is quite fun.
10:45am I have to choke down my snack which is really gross because it’s the same thing you just fed your kids. It’s really hard to eat a mushy plantain after watching your kids cough it all over you, trust me.
11:00am: more massages!
11:30am: diaper changes and putting the kids back in their wheelchairs (the back pain is unreal).
12:00pm: lunch break! Ain’t nothing like a jelly and cheese sandwich to fill you up for the second half of your day!
12:30pm: Kids lunch time! I feed a two year old boy usually. It’s a war zone every time. I don’t think I’ve ever made it out without puréed food on my clothes.
1:00pm: Take my kids back to the room, brush their teeth, change their bibs, and put them back on their mattresses.
1:45pm: “Relax time,” aka try not to fall asleep while laying in a bed with sleeping kids.
2:30pm: MORE MASSAGES!
2:45pm: Put them back in their wheelchairs.
3:00pm: Snack time Part 2
3:30pm: Team Refinement heads home!
3:50pm: We probably stopped at the convince store to get snacks again.
4:00pm: We get home and go to our rooms to chill for a bit.
4:45ish: Team time! Team time is different everyday so it depends on the day. Monday- Worship, Tuesday- bible project, Wednesday- blogging, Thursday- feedback, Friday- whatever we want to do, Saturday- debrief.
5:30pm: I lay in bed and stare at the wall, you got to have alone time somehow.
6:00pm: cry because it’s probably soup again (aka cilantro water with potatoes).
6:30pm: dinner is supposed to start.
6:38pm: dinner actually starts.
7:00pm: Hang out in the living room with the Squad, something weird is bound to happen at this time.
8:00pm: probably help someone cook.
8:45pm: head up stairs to get ready for bed.
9:00pm: I might shower but usually by the end of the week the showers get unbearably cold so I stop showering for a few days.
9:30pm: I get in bed and talk with my roommates for a bit.
10:00pm: Bedtime!
So that’s a day in my life for ya! The afternoons switch up a bit and so does when I go to sleep. Sometimes its 8:15 (judge me all you want), sometimes it’s midnight, who knows. I love you guys and I’m so thankful that you guys continue to read my blogs! I also love reading your comments so send them my way! Hasta luego!
Personal update:
It’s month 6 and I’m doing great! We’ve been doing the same ministry for over two months now and honestly life I getting very very normal. I’m planning on writing a blog about it (so stay tuned) and the struggles of the Race not being as fruitful as they used to be. My parents come in less then 3 weeks to do mission work with me and I am so excited! It’s been 5 months since I’ve been in America and seen my family so I’m pumped. We have a little less then a month left in Ecuador and then we go to Cambodia!
