Our first week of ministry is complete! My team’s first ministry was an after school program called Beats and Books. At Beats and Books we help the kids do their homework, and teach English and math. The kids also get the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument like trumpet, violin, piano and recorder. We had so much fun helping out and building Christ centered relationships with the kids.

But now the whole squad is at a kids camp (similar to a VBS) in town. Anyone that knows me knows I have extensive amounts of experience in kids ministry, so I was excited. When we got to the camp, they showed us all the super cute dorms and around the campus. They gave us orientation and explained all of the available jobs: worship team, camp leader/host and the camp counselor/small group leader. I was so excited to hopefully be able to be camp leader or counselor… but instead I am sleeping in the administrative office on the floor with kitchen duty the whole week. I guess that’s what I get for asking God to teach me contentment, right?

As bummed as I am that I don’t get to be using my talents where I thrive, I am so thankful that God cares enough about me to teach me such a valuable lesson. God is so intentional with His assignments and He knows me so well. I am so thankful that God called me out on my pride and is letting me figure out how to be content with my not-so ideal circumstances. So yeah, if you want to pray for this lunch lady I would love if you would join me in praying to be content through the rest of my race. Thanks!

Ya girl, sky

I wrote this blog 8 days ago but I didn’t get a chance to post it until now. So camp is well over and we’re back to a new ministry for now. But yes I did learn how to be content and I actually really enjoyed kitchen duty!
