What’s an Unsung Hero you might ask? Well, let me tell you. An Unsung Hero is a person that is out in the world doing things for the Kingdom of god. It is a person, a group of people, an organization that is under the radar, and maybe people don’t even know who they are….or maybe they do. So this past month in Moldova my team was in charge of reaching out, and trying to find these people. Then, see if they could use any help, and would potentially want to partner with The World Race. It’s an opportunity for future racers that come to this country to meet these people, help these people, and to do life with these people for a month.

When I originally found out that’s what we were doing this month I wasn’t super excited or stoked about it. I’m a bit of a control freak….and yes….being on the race has made me let go of a lot of that. However, every month I always know I will have a contact, have somewhere to sleep, and somewhere to eat….I know this ahead of time. But with Unsung Heroes (UH) month you don’t have a specific contact, or place to live, or place to eat….you don’t know where you’re going or where you’ll be for the month. You have to figure that out on you own.

So I knew that this month would teach me about fully trusting God for everything….I literally mean EVERYTHING. And so I did….and so He provided. For EVERYTHING.

God immediately connected us with a couple that opened their house up to us to live at while we were searching for contacts and going to meetings. They’re house was unbelievable. Three stories, beds, washer AND dryer, hot showers, flushing toilets, a full kitchen, and the best wifi I’ve had the entire race. They just picked us up, and made us feel like we were at home. No questions asked.

The team began seeing a couple of contacts a week, and hearing the stories of what people are doing here in Moldova. We helped relocate offices for an organization, so that they could continue doing outreach. We went and helped clean up and demolish a building so a new church could be built. We helped carry dirt in buckets for 7 or so hours in order to have a garden created at a home for women who were previously trafficked. Through each event I was able to meet incredible people, doing incredible things for the Kingdom….and asking nothing in return.

Through it all God provided, and through it all I began to fully trust Him more and more. I began to let any worries go, and know that He would/will provide for me….not only spiritually, but mentally and physically as well. Through it all He showed me what an Unsung Hero really is.

An Unsung Hero isn’t JUST the person that’s doing things so incredible that it could be the next future film.

They’re ALSO:

….the people that are the associate missionaries….the ones behind the scenes preparing to help missionaries that come to them.

….the people that work the Monday-Friday/9-5 jobs, but once or twice a year take off for a week, travel half way around the world just to help shovel dirt and plant a garden.

….the retired people who use their free time to reach out to those, and share about God’s love.

….the people that use their free time in the evenings or weekends to volunteer at a soup kitchen or local shelter.

….the people that work at your church teaching Sunday school, small groups, leading worship, helping out at AWANA, and etc.

….the ones that don’t have a dime to their name, but will give you their last penny and the shirt off their back if it’s going to further the Kingdom of God.

Your Unsung Heroes could be your friend, your neighbor, your family….it could even be YOU.

So here’s the part where I encourage you. If you know someone out there that’s doing things to bring glory to God’s Kingdom, then I encourage you to tell them! Give them a phone call, a text, an email, a hug….let them know that they are seen, how much they’re appreciated, and how incredibly proud God is of them. Then, go out there and become you’re own Unsung Hero!
