So….after reading blog after blog after blog after blog about any and everything that could possibly educate me in preparing for this incredible journey I've begun, and after talking to a friend who was a former World Racer herself the biggest common denominator is to lay down my expectations…any and EVERY expectation. However, I find it quite difficult not to have just a couple of expectations (that's normal, right?). So here I go…my top 10 expectations (in no particular order) for next year:
-
That I WILL get dirty. This one seems to be a bit of a given.
-
With that being stated, I'm also expecting to smell at times…possibly more times than not.
-
This one I'm pretty sure is the reasoning behind my first two expectations, and that is not having clean clothes and the luxury of baths.
-
That God will use me as his puppet. I am at HIS will for him to use me however HE sees fit, so I'm expecting for him to do just that with me.
-
I will grow stronger in my walk as well as in my relationship with Christ.
-
That I WILL form a bond with my squad and my team that is tighter than any other bond. This is more of a hope than an expectation for me.
-
That lack of sleep is going to be inevitable.
-
That I WILL definitely be forced out of my comfort zone (committing to the World Race was my first glimpse into that).
-
Being that I am sick right now with strep, I'm thinking that at some point I will come down with some sort of illness (this is an expectation I'm completely willing to lay down, and pray does not happen.)
- That I will ultimately fulfill God's will for me, and be a disciple among men.
I'm looking forward to see how these change once I start the race, and to see how God opens my eyes and changes my perspective on all of these ''expectations'' when I return.
"For God has not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7
