When I first heard we were doing bar ministry in Thailand I
was excited. I mean this is what I came on this trip for… to roundhouse kick
human trafficking in the face and save young women’s lives everywhere. I had no
clue what to expect so I asked people on the other teams at SHE what their
experience had been like thus far. Everyone basically said the same thing…
“It’s good but it’s hard. You are literally emotionally exhausted when you get
doneâ€.   Hearing all this made me
completely nervous and anxious about going out.

The first night our team was scheduled to go out we actually
had the option of whether or not we wanted to go. I was tempted to stay back
and catch up on sleep and a million other things I felt like I needed to get
accomplished but then I decided that was just the fear talking and since I’m
not longer being held captive by the Devil and his lies I was going to go out
and it was going to be a great night because I had a divine appointment waiting
on me and I didn’t want her to be stood up.

The night before we when out we got together for a time of
prayer during that time I asked God to give me a vision of who I was suppose to
talk to. I’ve been struggling with “hearing from God since training camp. The
World Race is big into prophesy and getting visions and words from God for
people. I’ve never been good at this but I had a breakthrough in Cambodia and
God gave me a word for a squad mate so I was asking for something for my first
night of ministry. God gave me a vision of a woman wearing a tight white
t-shirt and black shorts. I felt like He was saying, “This is who you’re
suppose to talk to.

So we went out walking in the authority of Christ, vision in
hand and confidence in our heart to Bangla Road. A relatively small street in
Patong with over 200 bars and an average of six girls at each bar.  I was on a team with the two Lauras, Laura
Meyers (our squad leader) and Laura Hamilton (from team Illuminate). The first
street we went down was Soi Sea Dragon. We stopped at a bar and I ordered a drink
our waitress had absolutely no interest in talking to us so I quickly finished
my drink and we headed to another bar. At this bar we met two girls – one spoke
very good English and the other spoke almost none. Laura Meyers connected
really well with “Kay and we told her about the English classes that SHE is
starting right down the road from their bar. Although she spoke good English
she wants to learn to write good English. She seemed interested so we told her
we would come back to follow up with her.

Two days later I lead a group of people back to Bangla Road
for a prayer walk. This was the group of girls that decided not to go out with
us on the first night. As we were walking done Soi Sea Dragon I saw “Kay. I
wasn’t sure she remembered me from the night before so I was a little
apprehensive to walk up to her. But as soon as she saw me she walked right up
to me to say “Hello. I introduced her to the three girls I was with and we
talked for a little while. She was on her way down to Patong Beach for the
afternoon. She had a lot more questions about the English classes and I told
her that Laura or I would come back with the answers on Tuesday night. Laura
took a group to see her on Tuesday night and she said that she would like to
get coffee and talk on Wednesday afternoon.

Wednesday afternoon Laura asked me if I would like to go
with her to grab coffee with “Kay in Patong. We went and had lunch and waited
for her to return our call. She called about 30 minutes after we got there to
let us know she wasn’t at home (she was with a customer) and she was still
drunk from the night before so she won’t be able to see us.

Thursday was an awesome night. The October WR squad was here
for our first 10 days at SHE. I was tremendously excited to hear that one of
the girls I made friends with at training camp in July would be here. Alana is
an extremely talented musician. She has a voice like an angel and can play the
guitar like a Rock legend. She was getting together a band to play worship
music at a bar on Bangla Road. Right across
from the bar where “Kayâ€ works.
My team mate Natasha Hurt is a drummer. She has been for the past 20
years . She played with Alana as well as our other temporary teammate Allie
Rothman, and two other girls from the October squad.

Directly across from where we were worshiping women were “working”.

Words cannot express how awesome it was to be able to praise
Jesus in an area filled with such darkness. As we were worshipping I noticed
Laura and Dana were over talking with “Kay and her friend, “Mum. I joined
them. We laughed and talked about boys, relationships, texting and their past.
“Kay is married to a man in the United States army and has been for five
years. He is currently stated in Germany. He is a former client. “Mum “ has
been seeing a man from England for the past 5 months. She asked me to write
down a list of things in English that she could send him via text. She bought
me a drink for all my hard work.

It was great to just spend time being with them. They told
us that they wanted to buy us lunch the next day. So we made plans to meet back
in Patong on Friday. They took us to some seafood restaurant and we let them
order. It was definitely different. After we ate they took us to the market and
we looked around with them. We didn’t have a lot of deep conversation but that
time will come. We just enjoyed being together. I pray that God will help us
get them out of a life they so openly hate.

I haven’t met meet the woman in the white shirt and black shorts yet but I have not doubt that she’s out there and I will meet her.
