The last three weeks have been amazing. Here in Rwanda we are three hours from the Capital. Closer to the border to Uganda. Here we are working with a Church called International Healing Center. It is in the middle of farm land and rolling hills. Here life is more simple and quiet than in the city. We have been in the city every month so this is completely different than anything we have experienced yet on our race as a team.
Here I have learned what working while in rest looks like. Each day our contact gives us time to pray and focus on our ministry. We get up and eat breakfast then for about an hour to two hours we pray and focus on what the Lord is teaching us. We also get to focus on each other and learn more about each other as well. Getting this time is great because I have been able to grow in knowledge of who the Lord is and also what things I need to work on in my own life.
Usually in the afternoon we do ministry at the church. It is about an hour walk to the church. While on the walk, we are able to get time to talk to our contact ( who is absolutely the strongest women I have met yet.) and hear her wisdom. Then we usually are either doing children’s ministry, speaking to the congregation about characteristics of God, helping with leading the different roles in the church, hospital ministry, or leading church services. Let me tell you, this church is powerful. There are about 300 people and these people are setting an example of what community looks like and to love each other. The services are filled with dancing and praise. I get to dance and sing Rwandan songs at the top of my lungs with the holy spirit moving in the room to the beat of a single leather drum. There is dust flying around from how passionate these people are worshiping the Lord.
Everyday, I feel like I am working while resting. I am rejuvenated each day whenever we go to ministry. In the middle of the race, it can be hard to focus and not want to go home but this month it has not been the case at all. Our contact wants it to be a place like how Jesus goes to Mary and Martha’s house. They serve him but he serves them by speaking. I had never thought of how to rest while working and here I am slowly learning it.
We still have a week and I can’t wait to see what else we have in store here. There will be more to come on this subject! I don’t get really great wifi and my email is currently deactivated for some reason, and my computer is broken. We don’t get wifi here so I am sorry if I haven’t gotten back to you yet.
