So this month was full of adventure in Honduras! Month 9 and I was praying for some crazy stories…and let me tell you we got them! In Talanga, Honduras our team came work with Heart of Christ with Gracie and Lee Murphuree. Here they have a refuge for women and who have been abused or raped and also are having children due to rape or incest. Not only that but it is also for children with special needs that have been neglected or have come out of these other situations. With this being said, Gracie and Lee work alongside the police force here in Honduras and at any given moment police with guns will hop out of a truck banging at the door with women and children in need of a place of refuge.
So normally, a women or child would come probably once a month or so. Well this month we had this happen four times and it started at 3 am on Mother’s Day morning. With two precious children who were neglected by their Mom who is apart of one of the biggest gangs in Honduras and who is a drug addict. They came in and had no idea why they were there. These children were scared and didn’t look in the best shape. So over the three weeks we were there these children started to open up. The girl, who was older literally took care of her brother like a Mom. She, I would say was more mature than me with taking care of children. She did things and acted so mature and a child should never have to be that way at such a young age. So as the weeks went on we got more and more kisses and I love you’s from them. Their Mother showed up screaming for them and we had to rush them to a location where she couldn’t see them. This happened a couple of times until the police had to be involved. On the last day, they were crying because they didn’t want us to leave and it was unfair. All of our hearts broke for these children who were just desiring love and a family. I praise the Lord that these children came here because they are going to have a family of people and Racers that care for them for the future until the Lord has their next step out of the place.
This is just one story, but there are many more from this month and the children and women that came seeking refuge. Friendships were made and by the end of the month it was a large family. I won’t lie and say this was and easy month, it was hard. It was emotionally hard and leaving I was emotionally exhausted in a good way. I learned things about myself and trusting that the Lord has a plan bigger than what is happening in the Moment. The Lord has had this plan for us to be there for thousands if not millions of years and there is a plan for the future for me, for our team, for Gracie and Lee, for the kids, for the workers, and for every person. Knowing this and knowing God is good I can’t wait to see where these children succeed and grow and where my life will take me also!
