My name is Haley Steele. I’m 23 and am living in Greenville, South Carolina (south cakilaki). I love it here! The South really is something amazing. My family is originally from Southern California but we found ourselves here when I was very young and I feel blessed to have been raised in the South.
I am the baby of four wacky siblings and have two amazing and supportive parents. I enjoy staying active, singing, goofing around and serving others. I grew up in and out of church throughout my young life and have recently become more involved through my church NewSpring and am drawn to find God’s place for me.
(This is a family tradition for my Dad’s birthday. As you can see he loves it!)
After graduating from Wren High (Go Hurricanes!) I began attending a local college in hopes that school and my future would fall into place. I have since learned YOU CAN’T expect life to work itself out. Effort, patience and obedience are needed to get to the next steps. I went through a faze in my life where all I did was drink and experiment with drugs. I allowed this lifestyle to control every action and my future. I gave into societies expectations and lost who I was.
The first gleaming light of God’s love changing my life was when I moved out of my parents home and into an apartment with my friend Carson. Together we struggled through insecurities and relationships with each other and God. But together we grew stronger together and closer to Him.
I felt connected to the World Race as soon as I began learning about what this organization stands for and is doing in the world. Adventures In Missions strives to reach “the least of these” at all corners of the world. I long to be a part of the World Race and begin serving others through Christ’s love. He flipped my whole life around with many challenges and changed me in an amazing ways. He has changed my heart and my way of thinking. He has changed my view of others and myself. He has changed my view of the world and my small but yet BIG LIFE. This adventure no doubt will have the same impression.
The Lord has granted me with gifts of love, devotion, a warm heart and an outgoing personality. I desire to reach out to the world and share God’s love by what He has done for me and what He can do through me. I am nervous as well as ecstatic for this new journey. I ask for prayers for myself as well as my team as we take on this great big world.
I will leave in January 2016 for an 11 month trip that will change the world and myself as I know it. First stop Costa Rica for one month then making our way to Honduras, Nicaragua, Chili and Bolivia. Then we will move to Eastern Europe where we will stay in the Balkans, Greece and Romania. And last but certainly not least is South Africa. Staying in Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda where I support a young girl named Promise who I hope to meet while serving.
I will get lost, I will try new and scary foods, I will sleep on the ground, I will hike up a mountain, I will travel through tough terraine, see many sick and hurting people. I WILL probably get sick, and definitely miss my old life back home but all of this excites me more than scares me. I will miss my friends, my family, my quirkycrazyridiculous sisters! But I will be back before you know it!
This is an adventure and I’m willing to jump head first into. I don’t want to hold ANYTHING back (and when I say anything I mean myself and what my Father can do in and through me).
Throughout my trip I will be keeping a blog of my adventures and what God’s doing. Please keep up with me and remember to keep us (route 3-green team) in your thoughts and prayers! (We will DEFINITELY NEED YOUR PRAYERS)!
If you would like to keep up with me while I am traveling around the world for 11 months please please please subscribe to my blog. I will be posting new blogs weekly during my travels. Yes I will still have my phone and my laptop, I am traveling the world not leaving it. So feel free to message me with questions and concerns. Also any support would be much appreciated. The smallest and largest donations are always a blessing to my day.
Thanks again for your love and support, Haley.
