When I was about 5 years old my Mom read me a book called Shanghai to China that was about a little kid who goes to China and ends up meeting the missionary Hudson Taylor.  As soon as she finished the book I looked up at her and in a very determined voice said, “Mommy when I grow up I’m going to be a missionary to China.” Or at least that’s how the story goes.

I don’t actually remember when I first realized that I was called to missions work; it’s just something I’ve always seemed to know. The specifics of what ministries I should do have changed a few times over the years and I’ve definitely had my fair share of Jonah moments where I tried to ignore my calling. But no matter what happens in my life I always come back to the realization that missions is what I’m supposed to do.

There are a lot of things that I could tell you about myself (such as my many pets or my obsession with Netflix) but my love of God and desire to do missions is all you really need to know about me. Ultimately, it is all that matters.

The World Race is just one more way that I am fulfilling my calling and preparing for whatever future ministry God has in store for me. In a little less than a year I will spend 11 months traveling to 11 different countries, spending a month in each country. Every month, and even every day, will look different as I could be doing anything from door-to-door evangelism, to construction, to teaching English. It will force me to grow in ways I can’t even imagine and I can’t wait to see the many ways God will work through me!
