Nepal was a month of being immersed in God’s beautiful creation. We spent most of our month in a village called Ulabari, about a 13-15 hour very bumpy and mountainous bus ride from our initial drop off location in Kathmandu. We were stationed in Ulabari for the majority of our month, apart from the week we spent trekking and camping in the mountains about 2 hours away from that location. All three of our locations were very diverse; Kathmandu being extremely touristy, bustling with activity and people; Ulabari was a village with bits of developed area still in it; and the mountains were as remote as can be- they included trekking through 13 rivers and then hiking up a mountain with all of our belongings (including a carton of eggs) for the week to get to our destination.
Out of the three, mountain ministry was by far my favorite- here we had the opportunity to visit and speak in the local church of very few members, visit and play with the children at the village school, clean the local water well for the people living there, & help begin the building process of an outhouse for the school.
It was a week of experiencing living in a simplistic lifestyle; hiking up and down a mountain to bathe in the river- the overall process taking about an hour/ hour and a half. Hiking up and down the mountain to gather and boil drinking water; killing chickens for dinner (I couldn’t bring myself to participate in the killing); sleeping under the stars in a tent I shared with Cam; going to the bathroom over a slat of wood outdoors (a scary place to venture in the night); and enjoying many hiking opportunities to find peaceful quiet areas to spend with God.
During our time spent in Ulabari we focused on building relationships with the community we were immersed in, mainly the children, and spreading God’s love and truth to each of them. We spent time working on the orphanage being built about 20 minutes down the road from where we stayed, and held a field day for all the village children there as well. It was a beautiful and humbling experience to have children approaching us asking for a Bible- The Lord is doing big things in Ulabari, however our contacts for the month Reuben and his family, his brother Solomon, and their friend Pradip, need more long-term workers and financial support. Please pray for The Lord to send people to this ministry to stay, along with the financial means. (Include the website address for donations)
