The scariest part of the World Race is not leaving home for 11 months; it’s telling your mom and dad (but mostly your mom) that you’re leaving home for 11 months. There is nothing more terrifying than looking a momma in the eyes and telling her she won’t be seeing her baby face to face for the next 335 days.

Therefore, I have compiled three different ways YOU can easily tell your parents about the World Race!

1. Just Text Them!

I mean, nothing says “I love you and value your opinion” like one sentence and a heart emoji sent via SMS.

2. Tag them on FB with the rest of your friends and family!

It’s not official until it’s on Facebook, right? So just go ahead and tag your parents when you announce it to the rest the world. And if your nosy aunt calls and tells them before they get a chance to see it, even better!

3. Send a post card from your first ministry location!

What a pleasant surprise that would be! Not only would your parents find out about your trip but they would get a souvenir as well!

I hope by now you have realized that my “How to” guide is meant to be a joke. If you haven’t realized this: My “How to” guide is meant to be a joke. The above are not good ways to tell your parents that you are going on an 11 month mission trip. Trust me, I know from experience. I was so nervous about how my mom would react that I actually did text her about my decision to apply; and I regret it. Going on the World Race is a HUGE deal and it’s not something that can be conveyed over text message. I really wish I had sat down with my mom, explained to her what the World Race is, and that God had called me to go.

If you really are reading this to find out how to tell your parents about this monumental call on your life, my advice is this:

1. Tell them face to face.

2. Start by telling them what the World Race and Adventures in Missions is.

3. Make it’s clear that this is something God wants you to do and not something you have come up with on your own.

4. Be prepared to answer any and every question imaginable!

So there you have it, my “How to” guide on telling your parents about the World Race!
