Lice- “Little tiny nasty bugs that live in your hair and make you scratch your head! Yuck!” – Sierra’s dictionary.

I knew when I signed up for the race that the chance of getting lice was significantly higher than being at home. When I found out that my team was going to be working in an orphanage I knew I was doomed to get lice! I did everything I could to ensure I wasn’t going to get lice! I didn’t wash my hair for a few days! I put enough tea tree oil in my hair Willow could smell it! I pulled my hair up so tight I had a mini face lift everyday!

The third day here I walked into Grace home I was told that my job for the day was to pick lice….. India is hot but I never sweat as much as I did at that second! All I could think was “ok Sierra get ready for lice.”

I sat down with Dorothy lice comb and lice spray in hand! First stroke and I already had lice and enough knits to start a colony of lice! I spent 2 hours combing out her hair, all the while telling her she was loved, and valued, beautiful and worthy! She kept looking back at me and smiling!

I then realized I was doing so much more than just picking out lice! I was showing her the love that I have always taken for granted! When my little sister got lice my mom wasn’t grossed out! She did what any mother would do! Ran to the store, got a lice comb and spent hours getting the little pests out! Dorothy doesn’t have a mom to do that, she had me! The love I got to give that day was unbelievably humbling! To get to show love to those that don’t know it is amazing!

I am happy to say Dorothy no longer has lice! And my tea tree oil worked like a charm! No lice on me! (But I did get to pick them out of Marie’s hair)
