Coming to Nepal I was so excited to see what could happen! After how amazing my mom talked it up (even though the closest she has been is google) I figured it would be amazing! And it is amazing, the country of Nepal that is! Our ministry this month? Not so much! Maybe it was just because we had big expectations! I mean we were living in a safe house for victims of human trafficking! How could it not be great? When we first arrived we were given a time table….. It didn't have much on it. We were required to get up at 6:30 for refresh.. I know what you're thinking 'What in the world is refresh?' After 24 days none of us have figured it out! We are on the World Race this is as 'refresh' as we are gonna get! After that we are to be upstairs for tea! We then spent the rest of the day in our room hanging out and play a lot of spades…… A LOT! Then at 5 we do our first part of ministry of the day which is doing devotions with the kids! This is always a lot of fun! My favorite night is still Lindsey's amazing talk on the Fruits of the Spirit! Complete with a huge tree and apples! Then after devotion we would go to dinner, after the first night of finding a rock in my rice I skipped this for a snickers instead! (Sorry grandma, I promise I'll quit chocolate when I get home!) Then it is bed time, also known as time for more spades. Needless to say after a week of this schedule we were all getting a little restless! I really felt like it was a wasted month of the World Race
I prayed a lot this month! I kept asking God why we had to leave our kids in India to come do nothing! I've spent most of this month in mourning over my kids in India! I can't even look at pictures of them with out crying! But God kept reminding me that he doesn't make mistakes and that there was a reason for everything he does, even if I think otherwise. And that's when his plan started to unfold.
Ruth was one of the young girls that lived in the house. She was very quite, very timid and extremely sweet! She immediately became friends with Katelyn! After one night of talking with Ruth, she shared her story with our team! When Ruth was 5 years old her father died, her mother unsure of how she was going to support Ruth, decided to leave Ruth with her uncle. Ruth was the sold to be a maid in a home. She worked for this family and in return they would beat her. While being with this family Ruth suffered from a lot of abuse. While living here Ruth had a large barrel fall on her causing damage to her back and to her left leg. This made it hard for her to do the work the family required of her. They then sold her to another family. While she was this family she was beat and raped daily by the mans 2 sons. Ruth now has fluids in her head from getting hit in the head so much as well as damages from being raped. When she was 16 years old she ran away from this family and went to a church. The pastor full of compassion for this young girl took her to a safe house. Ruth had thought she found her safe haven…. Safe House Nepal
