I have so much faith in God answering my “big” prayers for my desires and needs, but I fall short of big faith when it comes to the supernatural. So in Malaysia I prayed and asked God to speak to me through dreams.
My first night in Sri Lanka I had a dream about two of my teammates; Jenny and Molly.
We were at a church singing worship songs. I stood in the back of the sanctuary and Jenny and Molly were in my sight. Jenny was on the left and Molly was to the right of her. I could hear Jenny’s prayers as she prayed them. She said “God, if you can hear me, have someone touch my right arm.” As soon as she prayed the word ‘touch’ Molly grabbed Jenny’s right arm. Astonished, I said “God is that you?” Molly then turned around and looked at me with a terrifying grin on her face and nodded yes.
I woke up and my chest was on fire. My heart was racing. I physically felt the presence of the Holy Spirit and I praised him for finally giving me a dream.
I tried to figure out what the dream meant. And what was the terrifying grin on Molly’s face all about? At first I was scared it was demonic, but then I thought it could be the fear of the Lord. I really didn’t know.
The Lord gave me another dream in Thailand. I was on a different team with new girls and again, my dream was about my team.
Katie and Kayce and I were doing ministry on the race. Randomly, Jenny appeared. She was in a hostel sharing a bed with a stranger. The stranger was a woman with a short dark brown pixie cut. Jenny was laughing and thought it was hilarious she was sharing a bed at a hostel, but was okay with the awkwardness. The stranger made room for her in bed and Jenny said thank you and was surprised at how fancy the hostel was. Kayce or Katie (can’t remember) was texting my boyfriend and he was telling us to GET OUT. He said “I’m sending Niko to come and get you it isn’t safe!” There was a threat of men hurting us. We asked Nat (my boyfriend) why he thought we needed to get out and were waiting for him to respond. Then I woke up.
I also had no idea what the dream meant.
Then in Myanmar one day Kayce, my new teammate, told me a story about her month in Indonesia. On her first day in Indonesia (the day following my first dream) a woman came up to her and touched her right arm. Kayce is very in tune with the supernatural, and can feel when spirits activate. She felt something in her right arm. When she looked at the woman the woman had this terrifying grin on her face. At first Kayce thought the woman was possessed, but then she realized the grin was the fear of God.
Sound familiar?
So at this point I knew my dreams were legit.
One night in Myanmar my teammates Katie and Kayce (both very in tune with the Holy Spirit) woke up the whole team at 2am. Katie had just awoken from a dream where we all said “I don’t think I need to be here” and we left. When Katie woke up she heard someone step on her sleeping pad, but no one was there. She woke up Kayce and told her the dream. Kayce then said she could feel something was off.
I was honestly annoyed and rolled my eyes. I did pray and ask God what to do and I heard “stay”. But everyone else wanted to leave.
I remembered my dream and thought, there is a slight chance this could be my dream. Maybe I should just go with them and suck up my “fearless” pride. So I went.
We got to the first hotel we could find and it was NICE. Some of the girls so generously and sweetly paid for us to sleep and eat there.
Honestly, I was annoyed the whole time. I didn’t come on the race to stay at a 5 star hotel when I have a bad dream.
It’s been almost 4 months since this happened. As I have reflected on it I have realized that God saved me from some unknown thing that night.
Katie and Kayce and I all had warnings that’s why we were together doing ministry in my dream. Jenny represented my previous team leader who had an awkward but safe sleeping situation. My team leader that night had an awkward, but safe sleeping arrangement the night of the hotel. Myanmar was the first month I had on the race where I got to message my boyfriend everyday and he is protective of me praise God. So it made sense that he was the warning in my dream.
The only part that didn’t make sense was “Niko”. I have been waiting to meet a Niko.
But this month in Nicaragua (4 months later) I learned something. My boyfriend is on Fusion squad. Fusion is my squad’s sister squad. When Fusion talks about “R-squad” (my squad) it sounds too much like “our squad” and gets confusing. So this month, Fusion people told us that they refer to “R-squad” as “Rico squad”.
Of course God would call MY SQUAD to come get us if we were in danger.
So what is the connection between these two dreams and for me?
The first dream didn’t necessarily have any meaning to me other than God confirmed through Kayce that it was from him.
If that first dream had not been confirmed I wouldn’t have thought twice about my Thailand dream and I would have stayed in the apartment when something bad happened.
We went back the next day and the apartment was perfectly normal and nothing bad ever happened again.
I don’t know what the threat was. I’ve asked God and he hasn’t told me and I doubt if he will until I see him face to face.
But guys, the supernatural is real. God giving us warnings is real. Trust that he protects us. Pray big prayers. Ask him for visions and dreams and prophecies. He’s a really cool dude.
