Being sick on the race is kind of miserable.(22 people out of 47 have been sick the first 3 months) Not only do you have to go to a weird doctors visit with someone who barley speaks English and attempt to explain what’s wrong, but they always give you more than what you need for medicines. You also just want to curl up and cry, you want your parents there, you just can’t do anything and simply it sucks. I’ve been sick 3 or 4 times in the last 3 months and mine wasn’t even as bad as some people on the squad, some people have even been sick more times than me! Helen has not only thrown up for hours multiple times but has also had strep, and has just been really sick for no reason. It sucks, but a great thing is that she always has a good attitude about it which is so inspiring! I feel like I just have a straight face the whole time and just lay there. So so far nothing has made me home sick besides two things: missing my mom and dad taking care of my while I’m sick and seeing my nieces grow up! (Side note they both can say the ABC’s all the way through!) All in all, being sick is awful. You also have to miss ministry, miss xinias meals, which is always amazing (she is our dinner cook for Monday- Friday. But only in Costa Rica) you get all they “Awe! Are you sick!” or the “You poor thing” or the “I hope you feel better,” which is all good and I’m thankful for their concerns, but when you hear over 30 people say them you start to just smile because you don’t know what to say! So this is how being sick in another country is like while living with 47 teenagers.
