Month One in Lesotho, who knew?
The first time I was on the World Race website I knew right away this is what the Lord wanted for me. I had been home from my first mission trip to Haiti for about 5 months and since then I had been hearing Gods voice telling me “ Sherry, I have so much more for you”. I had just finished watching the video on the World Race home page and my heart was racing, I still had tears in my eyes when I clicked on the Routes link. I started scanning the different routes looking at which countries each route would go to with excitement in my eyes. I couldn’t scroll fast enough. I quickly read through route 1 then clicked on route 2 and there it was, HAITI! I didn’t even need to see the other routes. I could feel it, this route was mine. Of course I looked at the other routes anyway but it just confirmed what I already knew, Route 2 was for me. So, I figured I should probably check out the other 10 countries on the list for “My Route”.
I’ll be honest, I had to look at a map to find out where in the world Lesotho was located. I also had to watch a current racers blog to figure out how to correctly pronounce Lesotho, and for all of you who don’t know, its kind of like “Le’ Sue Too”. I knew nothing of this country and leading up to it, all Lesotho was to me was a month I had to get through in order to get to Swaziland and South Africa, places I had heard of and was excited to visit and do Gods work in.
Who knew that after spending just one month in Lesotho I would have tears in my eyes as I stared out the window from a taxi as we drove away from what had so quickly become a home to me. Who knew that Peter and Sylvia our host Parents would treat us not like guest in their home but like family. Or that I would look forward to seeing Tsia our “littler brother” anxiously waiting for us by the front door every time we came home. Who knew I would be loved so well in Lesotho?
Who knew I would get to go to Semonkong and see Maletsunyane Falls the largest waterfall in Southern Africa, on horse back and be in absolute awe of our amazing creator. Or that we would be within driving distance to a game reserve where I would get to hold lion cubs and other wild animal and again be awestruck by Him and His creation.
Who knew that I would be working with Campus Crusades for Christ and host College nights at our house or that I would be pushed out of my comfort zone and get to do door to door evangelism to college students at the dorms of the University. Or that the college students would be so open to receiving the Lord and welcome me into there rooms to sit and talk.
Who knew that I would get to spend time at Laratong the community center playing and loving on 60 plus children, some who are infected with HIV. Who knew that on Saturdays I would get to help feed these children what was most likely the only meal they would get to eat that weekend and that Me Mutina the director of Laratong would want to share the meal w/ me to make sure I had something to eat too.
Or that my team would get to go into remote villages and show the Jesus Film to people who had never been told about Jesus before and that we would get to witness close to 50 people pray to receive Christ into their life.
Who knew that I would forever cherish the time I got to spend in Lesotho, the memories I have of the smiles and laughter and hugs I received?
God knew, after all this was “My Route” and he had created it with me in mind.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord “ Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
