We arrived in Moshi Tanzania on March 1st after one of the smoothest bus rides in the last 9 months.  As our bus pulls up to
Agape Church

we are shocked as we watch Mzungu after Mzungu (westerner) come from every direction.  We soon realize we will be spending most of the month with an all girls passport team (a college age mission trip also with AIM).

Catherine, Sidney, Sam, Kate, Meg, Bayle, Nicole, Me, Hope, Christina, Hannah, Courtney, Olivia, and JM!
I love and miss these girls!
2 of my teammates are missing in this picture.  Aubree and Ally stayed an extra week in Kenya for parents week.  Check out Aubree and Ally's blogs to see all the awesome things that the Lord did during that time!

Moshi is the home of

Mount Kilimanjaro… which we can see from our driveway!

This month our ministry consists of door to door evangelism, building a church, and visiting orphanages.  This is was definitely one of my favorite months of ministry!

Twice a week we would take an old '87 land rover out to the village where we worked on the church.

I loved riding on the roof rack enjoying the beautiful Tanzanian countryside!

The church we worked on all month belonged to this mama…
She would make us Chai tea and mandazi (sweet fried bread!) every morning as we worked.  Smiling all the time.

This is the church they were previously worshiping in.
When our pastor first saw it, it stirred his heart to build this new building for the people here.
Imagine… a pastor spending his time and money to build a church for another pastor… that's kingdom living!

This is where we come in!

We spent our days digging out mounds of dirt for the foundation, we mixed and carried cement, and we carried bricks and water to the church.

The safest ladder I have ever stood on 🙂

I even got to be the personal assistant to the Fundi (professional builder).  He taught me Swahili while we worked each day!

By the end of the month

we had finished the outside structure and were ready to put the roof on.

It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I will miss spending my mornings there!

We also visited a couple different orphanages on our Saturdays.

On the first Saturday we went there I found a group of kids who wanted to put a puzzle together.  We spent close to 2 hours diligently working on this Noah's ark puzzle.

Maria (second from the right) was so proud when we finished that she wouldn't take it apart.  She even wrote on it in sharpie on the top "completed by Maria and Shell on March 9th 2013"

I also met Happiness there…

She wanted me to read her the story of the princess and the frog.  After, when I asked her why she liked that story so much, I was able to explain to her that she was a princess too because her heavenly Father is a king.  Her eyes light up with a new revelation of her identity.  It was one of those moments that make everything you gave up for this year worth it.

The kids enjoyed their suckers that we took them for treats!

We made many other friend this month too!

2 of the girls we attended church with every week

Me and Catherine.
She is  a girl that we visited while doing door to door on the first day.  She started attending our church and even came with us most days during ministry!

Overall, Tanzania was a tough month spiritually.  It is a dark place and as a team we could feel it, but despite that the Lord still did so many great things there in and through us!
Praise the Lord!

Thanks for joining me for ministry this month!
Your prayers and support over these last 9 months are so appreciated!
