Today, during door to door ministry, I had the joy of sharing with a young woman named Mercy.

As we began ministry today, I was paired up with one of the members of the church that lives in the area we were ministering to.  He has a huge heart for sharing the gospel with these people but his English isn’t that great, so I was just basically along for the ride.  I didn’t think I would really be able to share with anyone.

We arrived at a house with about 5 women and their children outside.  No one said anything in English, so I assumed that they didn’t speak it that well.  They brought me a stool, so I sat down and watched one of the women braiding one of the girl’s hair.  I am secretly fascinated by this so I was content to watch her as she quickly and meticulously braided her hair while the guy I was with shared the gospel with them in Swahili.

“Hey Mzungu.  What did you come here to give me?”

At that, I snap back to reality and realize they are finished sharing the gospel and one of the women there is talking to me.  I look over and find a young woman, with her toddler sitting in her lap, looking at me.

I respond with “I came to share Jesus with you”.    She says “good.  You have come to my house but I have not heard anything from you and I want to hear something from you.”

I pull my stool over beside here and find out that her name is Mercy and she is already saved and attends a local church.   I didn’t know how best to encourage her, but I decide to share Psalm 145:14-21 with her.

I read it to her and explained the verses.  How God will pick us up and provide for us and preserve us.  As I concluded she said that the Lord had used me to bless her today.  That she has some issues going on, but this word had reminded her of God’s faithfulness.  The girl that I had intently watched having her hair braided said the same thing.

I asked Mercy if she had a bible.  She didn’t.  She told me I could bring her one next time.  I had put an extra bible in my purse that morning before we left, so I pull it out and hand it to her before leaving.

I love how the Lord provides…
