Last Sunday was my team’s first time going to church in Chile. We walked 30-ish minutes, winding through the streets of Frutillar Alto to a church that was built about 6 months ago. Only a handful of adults and their children arrived as we started children’s church. While I could barely understand the words to the children’s songs we sang, I followed along with the hand motions and enjoyed seeing the kids take part in praising our Father. Then the children left and the adults gathered around the fire for a bible study. Before the discussion began, a man brought out his guitar and they sang a couple worship songs in Spanish. We were in a bare building, maybe 8 Chileans and my team sitting in chairs around the fire. I couldn’t understand the words to the song, yet I felt the tangible presence of God. He spoke to me and said, “look around. There’s no stage, fancy equipment and lighting, no microphones with seasoned singers or hundreds of people singing along, yet still I am here.” He filled me up to show me that I don’t need any of that stuff to seek and praise him. He is not praised in one culture, by one people, in one language. He is everywhere in everyone and everything. He is accessible in so many ways; all you need is a willing heart.
So I pray
Father let your spirit fall on me. Let your presence fill me up. I surrender so I can experience you. Whatever Your will, I will follow. Whatever the circumstance I will praise you. I have no other King above you. Let all my idols fall away in your presence and my sins be washed clean. I will never take another breath without knowing I am the daughter of the one true King. I will gladly serve you for all my days, forever lifting your name high in the hopes of one day standing in your full presence. You are mine and I am yours forever. It is in your name I pray. Amen.
