The message in church this past Sunday really got me thinking about my motives behind doing the World Race and where my heart is in this process.

Here are some of the main points I took away.

  • Is the end result of our mission (whatever it is) Jesus?

That should be the driving factor behind our actions and our missions. If Jesus is not the point than it’s not worth it, no matter how good it may seem.

  • We need to make sure the life of Jesus is our heartbeat. Not just our mission.

So, not only should our goals be Jesus. But our heartbeat. The thing that gives us life. EVERYTHING we do/say/think/write should be pointing others toward Jesus.
I feel like this is a common concept in the christian world. I have certainly heard it before. But how many people actually think about Jesus as many times as their heartbeats. I sure don’t. But to have an effective mission (and life) our heartbeat needs to be His heartbeat.

  • We need to be vulnerable and unafraid to let the world see how He has molded our hearts.

This is a hard one for me because I feel like I try to be transparent, but I try so hard that I end up giving a false or 'cleaned up' picture of my heart. I like to think that because I have not had any huge scandalous struggles I am just naturally close to resembling Jesus. But that is SO wrong. My heart is naturally unlike Jesus. I am prideful, a control freak, selfish, judgmental, and so many more things that make me unlike Jesus. But He has worked on my heart, shown me these sins, tested me in these ways, and taken that sin away so that I can be with Him again. So when I hide behind the fact that I have not had a scandalous sin, I hide the ability to show people what Jesus has done in my heart.

  • Are you IN LOVE with Jesus because the world needs the love of Jesus and that is how they are going to get it. Through our love with Jesus.

In love. It’s an action, you’re doing it. Being in love is not something you hide; everyone knows when two people are in love. So why is it any different with Jesus? People we meet should KNOW that we are in love with our Savior. Love is contagious. It spreads. Like a bag of Cheetos, once you dip your hand in the bag once you have the orange Cheetos dust everywhere and it spreads the more you eat.

If we are actively IN LOVE with Jesus and living with Him as our heartbeats with Him as our mission’s point, then people will see that love and want a part of it.

So basically it is not about me. Any of it. So if keep preparing for the World Race thinking I can do it on my own, and I am the one who matters most. I am going to be going nowhere fast.

Time to stop and Be Still. (Ps. 37:7)
