Little Drummer Boy

Come, they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.

Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

I am a sucker for Christmas music; it is one of my favorite things about this time of year. Of course there is one song that I can honestly say is my favorite, but I always forget about it until I hear it at Christmas time. Like every Christmas song it has been covered by a ton of talented people and re-made into a thousand different styles but the meaning behind it stays the same.

A little boy hears about a King who has been born and everyone is bringing this baby gifts. The boy follows, not wanting to miss out, but when he gets there he realizes what everyone else has for the King, beautiful, elaborate, expensive gifts. This boy has nothing worthy of a King, even a baby one. But he realizes He came all this way to honor him, so he does the only thing he knows how to do. He plays his drum.

It is not elaborate, or expensive, but it is genuine and beautiful. He plays the best he can, grinning the whole time because he is giving his very best to the King. And what does this little baby do, smile.

Every Christmas I hear the little drummer boy, and I realize how true this song is. Everyone is bringing their best before the Lord to honor Him, and I show up with no gift, not worthy of even being there. So what do I do when it is my turn to give my gift to the King? Well considering I have zero musical talent, I don’t play a drum. I think I just kneel before Him holding out my hands offering the only thing I have, myself. And although it is not an elaborate gift, or even a catchy drum beat, I like to think He smiles at me.

If you haven't listen to it in a while, I attched the Glee Version below. It is one of my favorites.
