I love when you finally fill up a journal and the last thing you do is read back over everything you’ve experienced and recorded the past few months/year. I found this gem in the middle of my old journal and it spoke to my heart once again.
I don’t understand who came up with the term “a walk with Christ” but I am more with Paul in 2 Timothy about “fighting the good fight and finishing the race”. It doesn’t say “I have enjoyed the view from the stands and taken a Sunday afternoon stroll”. It is action, fight and race. Hebrew says run the race with endurance. The only running I know is 6th grade cross-country so I am no expert but I get the analogy. A relationship with Christ is going to take effort and you will experience troubles but it will be more than worth it in the end.
If it were me writing about our relationship with Christ, I would choose a more adventure themed example like "follow the trail and climb the tree". I mean, you never know what hill is around the bend or what branch to grab next, but you go on because you know at the end of the trail is some amazing waterfall or at the top of the tree you will be able to lookout and see a glimpse of what God looks down on every day. You keep going because although it isn't always easy or clear it will be worth it.
Let me just define adventure for you:
- Noun – an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity. A daring and exciting activity calling for enterprise and enthusiasm.
- Verb: engaging in hazardous and exciting activity, the exploration of unknown territory.
I want an adventurous relationship with the living and active God not a walk. I want to have an unusual, exciting, hazardous, daring relationship calling for enthusiasm and exploration of unknown territory for His Kingdom.
Forget a walk with Christ. I am seeking an everyday adventure with the Living God.
You coming?
