Here is my Packing List.  For future racers: I am getting ready to launch this week. As I continue on the race I will update and include suggestions. Hope this helps!

Updated on 3/13/15 Asia
Updated on 7/19/15 Africa
Updated on 9/16/15 Europe

The Packs

(left to right, top then bottom):

  • Osprey Comet 30L Day Pack
  • Osprey Ariel 65L Pack
  • REI Rain Coat
  • Kavu Rope Messenger Bag (my “purse” for the plane and days off)
  • In Thailand I also picked up a cheap fanny pack for days I didn’t want to bring my Kavu. It helps because it holds my wallet and team phone. Also it can roll up and fit inside my Kavu

Clothes & Misc.

  • Feminine Products for Pack & Daypack (top left two)
  • Pants/Skirts in Blue Eagle Creek Compressible Packing Cube (top middle):
    • 2 Maxi Skirts (I ended up getting rid of one Maxi. You will only need 1 if you are bringing the rest of the things on here. I picked up some Thai pants in Thailand as well) (You only need 1…Depending on where you are in Africa you will most likely wear an African wrap. Make sure its not super heavy because you’ll be hot most of the race and packing will be annoying. Also I recommend a solid color like gray or black so you can wear different skirts and scarves with it. I recommend solid colors for most of your clothes, it makes your wardrobe feel bigger)
    • 3 Athletic Shorts
    • 1 pair of jeans (got rid of these in month 4, kind of regret it now because we are in Africa’s winter and it is cold this month)(once we got to Europe I picked up a pair from H&M. It kind of depends on your route and the weather in those countries if you decide to pack jeans or wait)
  • Shirts in Green Eagle Creek Packing Cube (top right):
    • 5 plain v-neck shirts
    • 2 t-shirts
    • 3 tank tops (only need 1-2)
    • 1 swimsuit
    • 1 Flannel (worth it!)
    • 1 Denim Shirt (worth it!)
    • 1 Cardigan (I sent this home…I didn’t need this with a denim shirt and flannel)(you can pick one up from the free pile)
  • Dark Blue Eagle Creek Packing Cube (bottom left):
    • 18 underwear (you only need 10-12)
    • 2 sports bras
    • 2 regular bras
    • 5 regular socks
    • 1 wool socks
  • Blue Packing Cube — to open half way (bottom middle)
    • 6 new underwear (2-3 is what you need)
    • 1 new REI Quick Dry Towel- XL (this was a good decision. I free-piled my towel from Asia and Africa and had a new one for the last few months that didn’t smell)
    • Baby Wipes (you can buy baby wipes every where. you don’t need to pack more than one pack)
    • Toothbrush and Holder (I haven’t seen a tooth brush holder in any country. I recommend this. You can find a toothbrush anywhere though)
  • Orange Packing Cube — Daypack extra clothes (bottom right)

Tent, Bed, & Shoes

  • Tent: REI Half Dome 2 Plus (I recommend getting a lighter tent. I changed to this one after training camp because it had more room. But this one is 3-4 pounds heavier and we haven’t used it yet. It will be nice when we get somewhere to use it, but I would recommend spending a little more money for a lighter tent…Just my opinion)
  • Sleeping Pad (top): REI InCamp Insulated Sleeping Pad

  • Sleeping Bag in Sea-To-Summit Dry Compression Bag (bottom): Sierra Designs Back Country 600 2-Season
    • Footprint and Sleeping Bag Liner stuffed inside
  • Shoes: Tennis Shoes, Chacos, and Crocs Sexi Flip sandals

  • ENO Hammock Gear: Bug Net (I sent my bug net home. It was about a pound and a half and took up too much room. Haven’t used it yet and I have another bug net), Double Nest, and Straps (My hammock was awesome to have. I ended up sending it home for space and weight reasons and because it will start getting cold in Europe soon)
  • REI Airporter (Get the one that zips open so you can still carry your pack on your back with it on!!! Seriously. Take my advice.)
  • REI 80L Pack Rain Cover
  • 1 REI Quick Dry Towels – XL
  • 10L Pocket Shower (dont need)
