This evening, my team and I saw God’s life changing power in action. This evening, my team and I saw a prostitute walk away.

Each Saturday, my team visits the park where prostitutes wait for customers. Tonight, we met a 52 year old prostitute in a severely abusive relationship. She has been in this relationship for a year, is beaten daily, and has been in the hospital four times. She has been beaten with a shovel, hit over the head with a rock, had cigarettes extinguished on her body, alcohol thrown in her eyes, and now has nerve damage in her shoulder and arm. She met this man in Bangkok, and he began abusing her 1 week into their relationship. When her family began to defend her, she fled Bangkok and came to Korat for fear of her family’s safety.

The amount of pain she has experienced both physically and emotionally is beyond my comprehension. For quite some time, she has desired to escape her life of fear and pain, but has been too poor to do so. Recently, she attempted suicide by jumping off a bridge into a lake, but was rescued by a stranger. Now, looking at this, I understand that God rescued her in that moment so she could be saved in this moment.

Tonight, my team and I walked out of the park with this woman, took her to a safe hotel where she cannot be tracked down, introduced her to the freedom of a relationship with the one true Savior, and tomorrow morning she is headed 12 hours away to a facility where she can start her life over. Here, she will be far from harm and will be surrounded by people who will love and encourage her and fight for her to have the life she deserves. She will learn and practice a trade so she can provide for herself, and she will be guided in her relationship with God. From this night on, my sister is free.

It blows my mind how much God loves His children and how He never stops pursuing us. It is evident to me now more than ever that the Holy Spirit is alive and at work. While I do not fully understand how God works, He is undeniably good. He is in love with His children, constantly pursuing our hearts and offering His love, healing, and freedom. I am elated that this woman has chosen to recognize Jesus as her God and Savior and that she will soon be walking in a life of complete freedom. Our God saves!
