hey guys! so i’m currently in peru where i am working with savage ministries! my team helps out with the school in the morning and in the afternoons we do a variety of different ministries- soccer with street kids, evangilism, medical clinics, and also help out with different things around a couple local churches! i’m super pumped for our time here and excited to see all that God has in store!
–
anyways, here’s a little something i wrote before our last day of ministry in ecuador-
this picture sums our life pretty well:
sun burnt faces,
chipped nail polish,
dirty hair,
silly faces,
full heart.
this is life here.
we pass cows and stray dogs every morning as we walk down a dirt road on some mountain 13,000 feet in the air.
we lift buckets of concrete and drag sandbags down a hill.
we shovel dirt into bags and move cinderblock after cinderblock.
we eagerly bounce up the steps of a little shack where we eat whatever jam and cheese sandwich we have for lunch.
we wear hats to protect us from the sun until we find ourself immersed in clouds sometime after noon.
we pile into packed buses and arrive home with just enough time to shower before dinner.
and to be honest, it’s been tough.
wake up early in the morning, spend time with the Lord, eat breakfast, get ready, go to ministry, come home, shower, eat dinner, have team time, go to bed, repeat.
it’s exhausting-
it’s emotionally, physically, and spiritually challenging.
but it’s also fulfilling.
it’s emotionally, physically, and spiritually nurturing.
that’s why the picture above is so accurate-
we’re covered in dirt and tired from all the work yet we’re making silly faces and enjoying the place God has us in.
in the midst of all the sun burns, chipped nails, and dirt, we still have silly faces because God has provided us with abundant strength and joy. even though waking up everyday with the same demanding routine may get old, He has revealed new aspects of His character even through most mundane of things to keep us in constant awe of His goodness. though He has called us to serve Him, we have also learned the rest that comes with being called His child.
and that is why we can hold our sandwiches with dirt filled nails and still have a silly face- because we know that the work we have done here is never done in vain. we know that even though we are tired, God does not lead where He does not provide. we know that even when we are not in the right “mood”, God uses us anyway- and that is incredibly humbling. that He would still use us despite of ourselves so that in our weakness His glory may become all the more evident. it’s humbling to think that God would give us reasons to make silly faces because He wants us to have joy. it’s even humbling that He would so graciously give us a full heart every. single. day.
wow, thanks God.
