escalators:practically the automatic, constantly moving, more efficient, cooler older sibling of stairs.
scrolling through my camera roll tonight, i came a cross a picture of me and my mom’s feet as we stood on the step of an escalator.
i think back to that moment: the warm latte cupped in my hands, my head swarming with all the joyful memories of a day spent at disneyland, and a readiness to just sit and chill after a long day of walking, laughter, and cheerful screams.
staring at that picture now, i couldn’t help but hear God say, “shekinah, i am your escalator. let me carry you, guide you, and take you to a new place. just take the first step and rest in knowing that i have already prepared a way for you. let me show you”
this is God’s will for us: to be our escalator.
just as escalators take us to new floors, God does the same as He brings us from glory to glory. just as escalators hold our weight, God takes our burdens so we don’t have to carry them alone.
stepping onto the escalator that day at disneyland meant i was on my way home. it meant assurance in knowing that wherever i ended up was exactly where i was supposed to be. it meant rest as it was no longer me doing but me simply being.
the same is true for God.
stepping into His presence means home because home is in the center of His good and perfect will. stepping into His presence means assurance that He is faithful in the places He plants me. stepping into His presence means overwhelming peace as He is the one marking my path.
that is the lovingly, fully good, and sovereign God in which i trust.
recently God has been teaching me a lot about what it means to rest in His presence and sit still in His overflowing love. so as i continue to learn more about simply enjoying Him, i will continue to trust Him and step boldly out knowing that He is the One who carries me ever higher to places that exceed my wildest expectations.
wow. thanks God.
