I talk about faith a lot. I even have it tattooed on my wrist. It’s something God has told me, personally, to build my life around. It’s one of those things that’s easier said than done though. When it comes down to it, faith is hard. It requires great leaps into the unknown. Leaps that could end in beautiful celebration or tragic defeat but the only way to find the outcome is to just do it… leap.
So here we go! I’m operating in faith that God has called me and two of my friends here in Gainesville, Kevin Buzzie & Brittany Baker, to be a part of a World Race debrief and parent trip to Kenya at the end of April and to do that we need to raise $1600 a piece ($4800 for all 3 of us) for plane tickets by, wait for it… Monday.
That’s right. This is where the faith comes in. Monday could be a beautiful celebration or a tragic defeat. It’s all fallen into place at the last minute but we believe if God started this, He’ll provide a way and finish it.
The three of us separately heard a whisper from God a few months ago about an idea to come alongside World Race squads. We had been talking about how to encourage squads to go deeper in prayer and this idea of coming alongside them as family kept coming up. We noticed how, in these large squads of racers, there’s a whole group of hearts that can go uncultivated. At debriefs and things, they aren’t the ones in desperate need of coaching to work through issues or need pouring into because of being in a position of leadership. They’re doing fine and they are growing, but I want to see them doing more than just fine. I want to see them pushed and encouraged. I want to see them catch the heart of Father God and fall more desperately in love with Him. I want to see them go farther and be greater by bringing clarity to where they’re at in their walk, challenging them to get outside a rut, opening their minds to something new in prayer or bringing a fresh perspective on what they’re facing. I want to see the world affected by these sons and daughters on fire for Him.
Kevin, Brittany and I have been given an invitation into something bigger than our selves or abilities. We’ve been invited to answer the call we felt and actually go to this debrief in Kenya to try this out and see what it looks like to come alongside a squad as brothers and sisters and help them in whatever way they need. This is a unique trip because we’ll also be helping with a parent vision trip the week before the squad debrief. I’m so excited to go and see what the Lord wants to do through us. Heck, I’m excited to see what He does in just the next 5 days. Thankfully He is infinitely bigger than my logical fundraising mind.
