I am sitting in the Dulles International Airport waiting to board my 14 hour flight which will take me to a (probably) 6 hour layover which will then take me to a (probably) 5 hour flight to finally reach Nairobi, Kenya (oh, yeah putting on the POSITIVE PANTS NOW!). 🙂 The past few days have been absolutely amazing. After arriving in DC and meeting up with the rest of my “family” we headed to Alexandria, Virginia, to set up our tents on the amazing campus of the Virginia Theological Seminary (I SO did not expect to be sleeping in my tent while still in the US! Oh, and it rained for 2 nights). I can’t thank them enough for allowing us to use their facility for our Launch site! We spent more time getting some training, and learning together as a team.
Our last day here has been spent together as teams in the DC area. Many of us needed to go to REI for last minute purchases and with not much time left, my team decided to eat at Chili’s for our last meal. (So, excited as that is my favorite place to eat). After Chili’s we did not have much time to get to the airport by 6 but God had some awesome plans for us. My lovely teammate Jessica had done some extensive research this morning on routes and buses to take to make sure we arrived at the Airport on time. However, due to confusion and time we were having difficulty finding were to go. Finally we asked a bus drive where a certain stop was and she graciously allowed up on her bus without pay to drop us off where we needed to be. While on the bus we learned of an easier route to the Airport and a lovely lady named Lucy helped us navigate through purchasing a subway ticket and getting us to the bus we needed to be on. It was so awesome to have a complete and totally stranger help us. Not only that but the bus she got us to happened to be an air conditioned charter bus. For you, that might not be a big deal but for us, who have been sleeping in Tents, and walking the streets of DC with a 40-50lb pack on plus probably a 20 lb day pack and maybe a purse, that’s a big deal!
Anyway…
God has BIG plans for this squad and I can’t wait to see what happens. Launch has not been easy for me though. I have realized that for quite some time there had been a battle raging in me, a struggle to hear the voice of God but I realized why I had not and I’m not really, to be totally honest, looking forward to working that out with God. It will be painful, difficult, uncomfortable but I know that in order for me to fully allow God to use me for his work, I must empty myself of “ME” and so, I must do some “dirty work”. So, I would greatly appreciate it if you would pray for me.
Pictures to come!!
