Sin. What is sin? I believe sin is anything that shifts your focus from Jesus. I believe sin is anything that causes you to doubt God. Sin is a topic not often talked about in today’s society. We often talk about Jesus and about his grace and his mercy, but we often don’t talk about the sin that remains in our lives. Some examples of sin are found in Galatians 5: 19-21 “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
That’s a scary thought! By living a Christian life, yet still living in these sins, you’re in essence nailing Jesus back to the cross again.
Romans 6: 1-2, and 6-14 states “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Verse 6- For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”
We cannot keep on willingly sinning and following Jesus. We need to repent and turn our hearts back to him. One of my favorite verses is 1 Kings 18:37 “Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.” This was the prophet Elijah calling out to God to perform a miracle so the prophets of Baal, a false God, would turn their hearts to Jesus. This is the exact same prayer I have. That you would turn your hearts back to Jesus. At the end of the day, this is what I believe in my heart, everyone is going to one of two places, heaven or hell. Whether you believe that or not, if you asked yourself that question right now, where would you go based off of what I just shared? I want you to experience the same joy and freedom I and my entire squad have experienced by boldly stepping out and turning our hearts to Jesus. All He wants is your heart. I’m not asking you to be perfect. I’m asking you to be a sold out believer for Christ. He wants either hot or cold, he doesn’t want luke warm. And I want you to be on fire for His kingdom. His kingdom has so much life, so much joy, so much freedom. Your acceptance of Jesus and acknowledgment of Jesus is your guarantee in heaven. And I want to see you there! The Bible says that when one sinner repents all the heavens rejoice! Not only are Christians rejoicing, the angels are rejoicing as well! It’s one big celebration!
The questions I want to leave you with is this.
If you’re a Christian, is there a sin in your life that you haven’t brought before the Lord that’s keeping you from growing in your walk with Him?
If you’re not a Christian, what’s stopping you today from accepting Jesus? I can guarantee you, there is nothing better in this life than Jesus, not even Krispy Kreme. Yes that’s right, Jesus is better than Krispy Kreme.
