Guatemala Los Gozosos Ministry (joy filled ministries).
This month we will be staying at and assisting with a children's orphanage. Here all of the children are special needs, and oh so Joy filled! We arrived on Thursday of last week and found out that we would be helping with activities of daily living. Bathing, clothing, school, physical therapy, chores around the facility such as laundry, cleaning floors and windows etc. We also found out that we would be having breakfast at 0630 every morning, have hot showers and wifi all day everyday! What? That happens on the world race? Apparently…
Friday was our first day of helping out. I got to help in the school. It was so much fun! The second grade class had 3 children and I got taught Spanish Verbs and endings… Haha. I assisted with guiding their hands when writing, cleaning up after as well. Yet I didn't feel useless, I felt blessed to be a part. The love of the teachers for their students is so very evident.
In the afternoon I was able to help with physical therapy. My favorite part waste directions said " get child to lift butt off mat (if all else fails tickle him)." Hahaha, tickling worked! So fun!
Saturday morning chores were done early and so I brought out my music and speakers …. the kids love to sing and dance. Some people took pics and they are on Facebook, and they danced and sang as well. We danced from 10-12!! It was so much fun. I played my Spanish worship music.
Sunday was a fun day was well. We went to a church close by and everyone was very welcoming. The church was large and beautiful! It also was very long and in a language I didn't understand, and man was I hungry. Haha, now I know why. I read through the proverb for the day, as well as song of Solomon, and exodus. We had a lot of down time on Sunday, and we went for 3 walks, and found a lot of snacks and stores. I ate so much!
Today, Monday, my duties were dishes and chores. I ate breakfast, did dishes and then went back to bed because the nausea and diarrhea had started. Haha, been there-done that, I was just going to wait it out. When it got closer to 11-12 I came out of my tent because it was too hot. Then Courtney joined me in the living room. We went to the hospital. Which is where I am presently… And will remain until Wednesday apparently. I picked up a parasite and a bacterial infection in my travels. I already feel better. They gave me something for nausea.
It's funny, last night I said that I was not going to use the Internet today because there's was no need for me to be on it everyday, especially with mom and dad out at camp right now. This little experience has made me want to contact my parents, but the wifi doesn't reach this part of the hospital, so even if I wanted to I cant get on the Internet. I should know in a couple days what the purpose of this little experience is, and I am sure it will be awesome! Haha.
Tuesday- I can tell already that this time is going to help me refocus on God. Not that I wasn't seeking Him already, but my goal for this month was to know Him better and seek Him in a way I never have before, having all this time just for Him, really helps me focus and not be distracted!
