Recently I was reading an article by Desmond Tutu as he was promoting his new book “God Is Not a Christian”. He was discussing Gods heart.
Near the end of the article he said “There is a Jewish story which says that soon after the episode of the drowning of the Egyptians in the Red Sea, while the Israelites were celebrating, God accosted them and demanded: ‘How can you rejoice when my children have drowned?’ (NewAfrican)”
God is not a Christian. No. He is far greater.
It hurts my heart when someone or a group of people come out to predict the dreaded “Doomsday” or “Apocalypse”. Everytime after the “expected date” we can “expect” the first group of people to be standing at his doorway with big bright signs to be Christians. Scorning, degrading, insulting, and yelling “blaspheme” as their suburban’s are double parked in the handicap spot to shorten their walk.
The past 8 months has shown me a lot. Mingling with Catholics in Central America, Buddhists in Thailand, Tao, Muslim, and Hindus in Malaysia and so forth. As humans we are all searching for Love!
Harold Camping didn’t come out with this prediction to be in the spotlight. He doesn’t want your money. He genuinely believed the world would end on May 21st.. and you know what. Power to him!
He believed it, and he went out to the streets and told everyone who would listen!! How much did he spend on billboards alone? Than the TV commercials! If the world would have ended he did his best to inform all that he could, so nobody would be left behind.
Even here in Africa people were talking about this man and his prophesy!
What would you do?
What would you do if the Lord gave you a word and told you to take it to the streets? What would you do if you knew people around you would spend eternity in hell?
What have you done?
God has given you a word, THE WORD! The truth.
Matthew 24 says more than “But the exact day and hour no one knows” but it also says “Who then is the faithful, thoughtful, and wise servant, whom his master has put in charge of his household to give to the others the food and supplies at the proper time?”
It’s time to love one another. For He is Himself our peace our bond of unity and harmony. He has made us both Jew and Gentile one body, and has destroyed the hostile dividing wall between us (Eph 2:14).
Traveling the past 8 months has also shown me what a great responsibility it is to be a Christian.
God is not a Christian. We are.
