Seasons greetings my friends!

I just finished up a month of ATL in Da Nang,Vietnam. I decided to try my hand at making a video recap for this month. But first I want to give you a little description of what we did.

First and foremost, I want to express that I instantly fell in love with Vietnam. The landscape was beautiful and the people were so kind and warm hearted.

Ok, here is the nitty gritty. My team and I spent the past month participating in ATL. This stands for “Ask The Lord.” Basically, we were not connected with a specific ministry to aid. Instead, we were tasked with waking up in the morning and asking God what He wanted us to do each day. The World Race is not only a mission program but also a discipleship program. ATL is focused on teaching us to rely on hearing God’s voice for leading us when we return back to our “normal” lives and don’t have a ministry host to partner with. It teaches us how to make ministry a part of our daily life by relying on the Holy Spirit.

It was an amazing and challenging experience, especially because Vietnam is a “closed” country. This means that it is not illegal to be a Christian, but it is illegal for a foreigner to share the Gospel with a local. This made ATL especially interesting, because we couldn’t use traditional evangelism methods.

What did the Lord tell us to do?

1) He invited us to focus on our relationship with Him. I was able to spend more time in His Presence than previously on the Race.

2) My teammate Kathryn Hamilton and I had the opportunity to work at a Cafe called Happy Heart. It is owned and managed by Christians and focuses on employing and equipping deaf members of the community. And man, can they cook some mean meals!! We also got to make some great friends from the cafe.

3) We helped out squadmates on a different team with a Christmas production called “Merry Christmas Da Nang: How the Grinch Found Christmas.” This production is the culmination of the missionaries’ efforts each year. They are able to tell of the birth of Jesus through this play. Six people gave their hearts to the Lord after seeing the production! Go God!
