Saturday, I went to a Garage Sale at my local REI. I was definitely out of my comfort zone. It’s been years since I’ve been to REI or this type of store. I showed up with my World Race required packing list, and quickly realized I needed to do a lot more research on packing for this extended trip. For things on the list such as backpack, daypack, sleeping bag, tent, sleeping pad, there are at least 15 different versions, sizes, colors to choose from. This World Race preparation, including the packing and fundraising, is one of the most challenging things I’ve ever had to do, even more challenging than training for and completing the 37.2 miles ultra-marathon I did in 2013.
As a runner, I often think of life situations in terms of a marathon course. At this stage of my World Race journey, I am in the training and preparation stage. I haven’t even gotten to the race course yet and it’s a hilly mountainous road already. But with all of the preparation, I have to remember that this World Race is not just a trip, it’s a call to bring the love of Jesus to the nations. Alongside the physical preparation, I have to also focus on preparing spiritually. Every week, I read through my past journals to remind myself of how the Lord led me to the World Race. It’s at these moments that God reminds me that in my weakness, He is my strength. I will never be able to carry out the purpose He has for me in my own strength. I need to rely on Him completely. These are the scriptures I am clinging on to this week.
For with God nothing shall be impossible. Luke 1:37
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ Philippians 1:6
Thank you for reading and being a part of this journey with me. Please donate, share this blog, and encourage others to partner with me on this journey as well. It is just a little over 6 months now before I launch to tell the nations about the love I’ve found in Jesus! I need to raise $5000 by July, and then another $5000 by September before our launch date in October.
In courageous faith and for His glory alone,
Sharon
