Warning: this is a long read, but since the April blog challenge is over, I’ll be posting less times per month now. Please read until the end. There’s something for everyone to get involved! Thank you to all of you who have supported/encouraged/prayed for me so far. I can’t believe it’s already May. There are less than 100 days now until training camp in August. Time is moving so fast! For the month of May, I will be doing 5 different fundraisers, as well as continuing to plan for the future fundraising events.

UPDATE AS OF MAY 12TH – 5:30 AM – TAG SALES ARE POSTPONED UNTIL NEXT MONTH. I WILL KEEP EVERYONE UPDATED! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!

    1. Yard Sales – I will be holding tag sales May 12 and May 26. I am literally selling and giving away mostly everything I own, including books, shoes, clothes, miscellaneous household items, paintings, etc. I will also be taking orders for my homemade peach cobbler at the tag sale! $10 per pan. Come shop a little, hang out and enjoy a lemonade!

*If you have been doing some spring-cleaning and you have items to donate for the tag sale, please text/call/email me and I will arrange to pick them up from you. Thank you in advance!

  1. Coffee – If you are a coffee drinker, please buy some coffee here: Link will be posted a little later. All proceeds go directly towards the mission trip. Please share the link with anyone and everyone!

*Coffee is also a great gift to someone if you yourself are not a coffee drinker.

Update as of 5/9/18- I apologize to those of you waiting for the link to buy coffee. I am waiting for the coffee fundraiser site to update my information, then I can post the link here. Subscribe, so you get a notification when I post a new blog!

  1. Adopt-a-Jar – This fundraiser I’m really excited about! I have jars representing the countries we will travel to. For $11, I will give you the jar/country of your choice and your job is to commit to filling that jar with all of your spare change! This can be a dollar here and there, spare change after a work day or even coins found in your couch or under your car seats! You can even bring the jar to work and leave it on your desk. It’s a great conversation starter.

On June 30th, I will collect the jars back and all of it will go towards the mission trip.

I would love it if you would also fill the jar with small notes of encouragement/prayers for me while I am in that country. I won’t open any of the notes until I reach that country. It will be a nice pick-me-up on those lonely hard ministry days and a reminder of the people who love and support me back home.

I only have 11 jars right now, but if you want a particular country that’s already taken, I will make more jars.

If you live out of state and want to jump in on this fundraiser, I can either send you a plastic jar in the mail, or you can fill up one of your own jars at home and then on June 30th you can mail me the notes and donate that amount here via the Donate button.

Available jars as of 5/7/18: Thailand, Lesotho, Swaziland, South Africa, Nicaragua, Columbia, Costa Rica.

  1. Couch to 5K – If you have always wanted to walk or run a 5K and have been looking for some motivation and a fitness partner, this is your summer! For a $50 or more contribution, I will become your coach for the summer. If you are not local to me, you can still participate. I will chat with you 2-3 times per week to come up with your training plan and to guide you along the way. By the end of August, you will be ready to complete a 5K.

Those of you who know me know I was not always a distance runner. At one time, just walking up the stairs was a challenge. Thank you to my mother who modeled spiritual and physical health before me, and prayed and encouraged me when I was at a low point in life both physically, spiritually, and mentally. Also a shout out to my cousins Cindy and Paula who got me to register and complete my first 5K race back in 2009. That 5K race was one of the many tools that God used to change the trajectory of my life. I am forever thankful and I want to share what I’ve learned with others!

*Disclaimer: I am not a certified running coach, the program will just be me as a friend guiding you towards completing a 5K. You’ll be supporting me in missions and I’ll be supporting you towards your fitness goals!

Support raising update:

Thank you to everyone that has donated, said an encouraging word, or just asked me about my preparation. This World Race journey is truly a group effort and I’m thankful for my family, church community, and past and present co-workers. I’m also thankful for my squad-mates who already feel like family! I can’t wait to meet them in person in less than 98 days.

All glory goes to God that I am now over 50% to the first fundraising deadline of $5000 by July 20th. Thank you for your support!

I want to encourage you with something I am learning with this World Race journey. When God calls you to do something, He will always equip you, even if it’s a long process. God doesn’t call the qualified, but He qualifies the called. All God asks is for a willing heart. The fulfillment of His promises does not happen overnight, but as long as He is the one ordering your steps, He always fulfills the promise. Another quote I’ve been blessed by so just passing it along is: We make our plans, but God orders our steps.

In courageous faith and for His glory alone,

Sharon
