This munchkin arrived at the home sick. She was vomiting, had stomach problems, etc. She immediately went into the hospital. Heartlyn’s mother, who did sign over her rights, had only been feeding her milk from milk powder, the kind some adults drink here, with no nutrients. The doctor said this is something she would feed to her dog. From birth this baby was not getting the necessary nutrients. We later found out that Heartlyn had E-coli, Pneumonia, possible meningitis, and several other problems including asthma.

Joy and I took turns holding her and feeding her every 3 hours over the night. I slept maybe a half hour here and there that night (not much). She would just cry and we would do everything we could to make her comfortable and get her to rest. There were a few times when I would lay in the bed and just hold her as we both fell asleep.

After a couple of days, one of the other new additions, Chris John (10 months), had to be admitted into the hospital. They shared the room, and now there were two sick orphans in desperate need of love.

As others among our squad took shifts, more prayers and love were poured over these babies. The doctor was saying they would both be in the hospital for several more days. They were so sick! Lindsay and Bev took a night shift one night, both of them being extreme prayer warriors. As they cared for these two babies, they prayed labourously for them, earnestly asking the Lord to heal them. And he answered! When the doctor came in for the morning check-up, their sickness had greatly diminished! They still had minor problems, but would be able to come home in a day or two! Praise Jesus!
