13 Reasons Why I love Guatemala and it’s only been 13 days…
1. It’s beautiful.
You should see these volcanoes and sunsets and people.
2. I have space.
I just lived super close to 14 other girls for three months. Now, I have a roof, several porches, and places to just sit with Jesus and rest in him.
3. The people love with their whole hearts.
They practice genuine hospitality, greet you with huge smiles, and love love talking- even though you may not understand one another even a little bit.
4. I feel refreshed.
Honestly, nothing beats seeing your parents for the first time in 6 months.
5. They have seriously good food.
I enjoy tacos a lot. Especially Guatemalan tacos.
6. Family is huge.
It’s obvious. It’s encouraging. They serve one another well, respect each other deeply, and love one another with such a sacrificial heart. These people seriously represent Jesus.
7. Guatemalans have a seriously inspiring faith.
I’ve heard several stories that in the midst of despair and uncertainty, their only option was to cling to Jesus and that’s exactly what they did.
8. I’ve been challenged on what I believe and why I believe it and had to prove it.
This seriously encouraged me to press into the Word.
9. There’s adventure everywhere.
I rode a horse up a volcano. Ever rode in a chicken bus? Now that’s an adventure.
10. The bright colors brighten your spirit.
Beautifully colored buildings and flowers surround you everywhere you go. It’s so joyful.
11. I can clearly hear God’s voice.
“This will be a season of captivation. Captivation happens with continuous connection.”
12. It feels like home.
The church we went to Sunday felt exactly like being at Brazos Pointe (except that it was in Spanish)
13. I’m being stretched.
I’m having to ask hard questions, listen closely, and get outside my comfort zone with ministries I’m not used to.
Guatemala is so good. Jesus is moving here and I’m pumped to be a part of it.
We have cool ministries planned (Mondays and Fridays we have coffee and conversations with women in human trafficking. Tuesdays and Thursdays we are teaching english. Wednesdays we do home visits or play with children at a daycare) Tomorrow, we are going to pray for a gang neighborhood.
I’m starting Spanish classes next week (4 hours a day, 3 days a week!). I’m excited for doors that is going to open.
Thank you so much for praying and supporting me (and my team!!).
