“Whatever you are doing, work at it with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not for people,”
Colossians 3:23
So this was the scolding I got this week.
As I was driving home on Monday night, thinking about how I had to go back to school the next day, I was grumbling.
And complaining.
And whining.
I did NOT want to be a teacher yet.
I was working out at the gym
[and working on my tan at the beach]
I was sleeping in
[and taking naps]
I was ready to start my adventure on the World Race
[and not ready to tell my boss about it]
Then all of a sudden I got a gentle reminder of a scripture I had hanging in my kitchen during my first year teaching.
I didn’t remember the exact words or what verse it was, but I definitely heard God whispering that whatever I do, I should work at with all my heart, because it’s for Him and not for me.
God has called me to go out into the world and love his people.
He has also called me to be a teacher.
It is so easy to wait and think only about January.
I can get so caught up in preparing and planning and dreaming about what miracles are going to happen next year.
I also found out today that I might not be able to return to work at the school I’ve been at for the last few years as I’d hoped.
It’s easy to start worrying about that, but I know I’m not meant to yet.
[let’s still hope my principal changes her mind anyway]
But I still have four months left to leave an impact on my students
[to be a missionary right here at home]
And I want to be fully present with them; doing the job God has given me, and doing it well.
If you wouldn’t mind, would you pray for me?
That I would enjoy these last few months at home and live for Jesus every day, even when all I can think about is how soon I will be on my first plane out of here.
I want to cherish and appreciate the people I get to be with every single day and the students’ whose educations are in my hands without distraction.
And I want to do it with enthusiasm.
I am well on my way to being financially prepared for this trip.
However, I still need about 15,000 more dollars before I’m fully funded. If you’ll consider partnering with me and coming alongside me for the next 15 months, please click the support me link at the top of the page.
I’d love to talk with you or answer any questions you have as well, so feel free to comment, email, text, call, Facebook, snail mail, or smoke signal me any time!
